Probably one of my 3 favorite monuments in Dublin, tucked off of the main drag, but very easy to find. I was aware of Connolly's involvement in The Easter Uprising, but didn't... read more

Who is James Connolly? Thanks to my taxi driver I now know. But it's a real pain to find it, and it's not that spectacular.

Eamon O'Doherty (1939-2011) was one of Ireland's most prolific sculptors. His life size bronze sculpture of labour leader James Connolly has as its backdrop the Starry Plough, an international symbol of the labour movement. The sculpture was a commission from Liberty Hall across the street which is the home of the various trade unions in Ireland. Connolly was a socialist... More

If you're into Irish history, you may enjoy taking a stroll down to see the statue as Connolly as he is an important figure in early Irish 20th Century history.

It seems to me that Irish people are very proud of their history and I find this way to express it just right.

Irish history at its best. Like the Molly Malone stutue it is an excellent sculpture, well made, designed and finished. A tribute to the man himself.
