The George is not just any bar or any gay bar. It is the first port of call for young gay people in Ireland, it is the venue where gay and straight people mix together and where international visitors stop to check out the gay scene in Ireland. The George has been the lynchpin that holds Dublin's gay scene together. Having been around for 30 years it has been a home to the development of the social evolution of gay Ireland.

"A mix of styles with a sprinkling of fairy dust thrown in", The George features two bar areas; the front bar affectionately known as ‘Bridies' after one of the bar's longest serving staff members; with its low lighting and leather clad barstools is the perfect spot for a quiet drink and a chat. The main club venue has been graced by the presence of some of the hottest international acts including Alexandra Burke, Daniel Johnson, The Saturdays and Bananarama. It is also where you can see some of the best weekly performances in the city Space'N'Veda, Davina's House-Party and featuring International Cabaret Artiste Extraordinaire TM and former child-star Shirley Temple Bar at Sunday night Bingo!

We popped in after the St. Patrick's day parade and had a wonderful time. The service was awesome and all the people were chatty and friendly. The music was great. I would definitely stop in again the next time we're in Dublin.

Chatty atmosphere in the small bar next to the big venue. Highly recommended for an afternoon pint. Mixed LGBT crowd, very suitable not only for twenty somethings

Initially we didn't know this was a gay bar until we had got in and ordered our drinks but we are both glad we stumbled across this place. Atmosphere was great, music was really good and upbeat so great for a night out. Entertainment was on when we were there which was amusing. Would definitely go back

Popped in for a couple of early evening drinks on a weeknight. Bar was very quiet but that is to be expected at the time we visited. The venue itself is very nice, staff are friendly and drinks are reasonable. Would definitely like to visit again on a weekend night.

I went to The George nine years ago and then I returned the next time I was in Dublin – literally nothing is changed, except for the fact that it's a complete fire hazard during a drag show. From the people there that I talked to, The George is apparently one of the only gay bars left in Dublin. We... More

As a gay man, I was surprised to see how liberal Dublin was when it comes to accommodating LGBT people. I visited The George on the last 2 nights of my break in Dublin and I couldn't have found a greater place to enjoy myself, the shows were amazing and I felt great vibes whilst being there. I will waste... More

Good vibe bar, excellent toilets, good music but hey what's going on here with their policy not to stock irish or even premium gins? No Hendrix, Brockmans or gunpowder! What's going on? Is this a branch of weather spoons with bland uk gins?

We went for the bingo on Sunday night. It was a mini moon so we booked a table. We got a complimentary bottle of fizz. As ever a great show with lots of laughs.
