Take a bit of time to visit, set down, and reflect upon all that He has given you and yours, health, safety, love, and salvation. This is a beautifully old church, steeped in history, and very welcoming, even in the quiet of the day. The stained glass is so amazing, the altar, and then turn around and look at the... More

Galway Cathedral was built in 1965 on the site of the old jail. It's a Cathedral that galwegians are proud of and has many excuisite features. Connemara marble is one of these and the glass work is outstanding. I love the feel of this building . It is peaceful and restful and during Christmas and when the novena is on... More

Well worth a visit if in Galway if just to admire the sheer size of the building, nice to walk around and discover the history or visit the shop in the cathedral and pick up your religious books, prayers etc. plenty of shrines if you want to stop and say a prayer or light a candle

Had a lovely, relaxed walk through the cathedral, very nice to see. There is a little leaflet as you go in to tell you all about it and you wander around at you leisure.

Shocked! We were shocked to learn the Cathedral was built in the 1960's vs 1860's. Lovely limestone pillars and beautiful stained-glass. Very classic yet not fussy or dark.

Built on the site of an infamous jail, the cathedral looks medieval but is actually modern, built with large doses of American Irish expatriate funding in the 50s-60s. Cardinal Cushing was a prime mover in getting it done. There's an excellent discussion of what was once on the site, as well as overpowering detail on the genesis of the new... More

This cathedral is unbelievable. It was magnificent, majestic and yet simple in certain aspects. It is just an awesome work of art. You cannot go to Galway and not go see this cathedral. Such detail in every aspect yet it is a regular place of worship and Mass for the parishioners who wish to attend. When Mass is about to... More

Was a bit disappointed in the appearance of the cathedral...seemed a bit in need of refurbishing from the inside out. What was most interesting was the stained glass image of U.S. President John F. Kennedy kneeling attentively in prayer. Cool!

If you can take a stop here, big, breathe taking and beautiful. You have to option to light a candle, say a prayer, make a purchase at the shop inside and take some holy water home with you. So classy, you can feel the authenticity there.
