We stopped in for a quick thirst quencher and to duck out of the rain. Located right on Eyre Square, O'Connell's is one of the oldest pubs in Galway. There is an interesting and fun courtyard in back, with an outdoor bar and restrooms. There are other rooms as well. Service was friendly. If I lived in Galway, this would... More

Had a couple of drinks here on Friday. We had a lovely sunny seat along the benches in the window. It's a lovely quirky pub with a really mixed crowd of people in and lovely staff. There's a great beer garden out the back too.

Visited here as it was the only place showing a Premier League match at the same time a GAA match was on. Every other pub was only showing the GAA match (fair enough), as was O'Connell's. However, they also had the middle room showing the Premier league match. Great pint. Locals and barmen were excellent. Will return. Diolch.

Very friendly staff and you can take your dog into the beer garden, just about the only place in Galway to let you. The beer's okay, too.

This pub has it all - a great place for a good drink, craft beers and all housed in an old bar on Eyre Square. There is also a great beer garden outside in the back which has music at weekends. The old fashioned look of the bar with it's textured high ceiling and great display of drink bottles on... More

Tumbling out of the bus from Galway Races, O'Connell's provides the perfectly hospitable hostel. Beyond it's modest front, there extends a 'garden' area with a bar and fabulous live music. Great craic was had by all!

Brought here by a friend with local knowledge, and it showed. The main bar looks like the classic Irish pub, but without the ridiculous crowds of some Shop Street hostelries. They've also got a large beer garden, which had a wonderful atmosphere on a balmy summer evening. And bar prices were so reasonable, especially if you're used to Dublin prices!

As with most bars in Galway, O'Connells excels when there is a visiting band / musician. During my too-short stay here I found it to be a little dull when there was no musical distraction but had a great atmosphere when a solo singer took to the stage. The main bar area was small enough to feel part of the... More

Visited this bar on a Saturday afternoon with friends. All I can say is they must be making a fortune to be able to treat new customers they way they did ! Inside was like an old kitchen and boring, outside no better. Staff came out and stuck "reserved" signs on crap old benches and told us they were expecting... More

Very popular pub in the centre of Galway on the east side of Eyre Square. All the features of the old bar are retained. Much bigger than you would imagine from the outside. Two smaller back rooms behind the main bar. Additionally at the back of the pub is a large outdoor beer garden with seating which is ideal for... More
