Good Guinness with great music

The Crane Bar is an old Galway institution and a must visit. Never know what fun can be had. Guinness is great and music wonderful.

Was told my the hostel staff to check out Crane Bar for some live local music. Immediately upon arriving, we went upstairs. My fiancée and I each got a pint of Smithwick's and enjoyed the live music. At one point, an older local gentleman quieted the bar and sang a song from his barstool with no musical accompaniment. It was... More

Amazing pub with often live music. Very relaxing atmosphere and perfect to escape the busy streets of Galway. Cash only here.

I have been to the crane about 6 times. Every time was great. This is by far one of the best pubs in Ireland. The trad starts around 930 but I think theres an earlier one Sunday. The pub is not too expensive and the music is normally very very good.

While in Galway, I had the opportunity to attend a trad session at crane bar. So glad that I did! It started closer to 10pm, which is fine by me. Seemed like a gathering of locals that were having a great time playing together that happened to have a bunch of people watching, which is to say, it was enjoyable.... More

Loved the feel of this bar and there were lots of locals, which I saw as a good sign. Trad music downstairs (where we were). Also music upstairs. Only down side was no credit/debit cards. If we had known ahead could have planned better.

Had a glass of Guinness while wandering around Galway's shops and pubs. The Crane has a great reputation for music, but unfortunately I couldn't stick around. The bartender was very nice and chatted with me while I drank my beer.

Many Irish Trad sessions and pubs are overrun with tourists, and it's impossible to see it without spending a day waiting around. This place is a hidden gem, off the beaten path in Galway. They have an upstairs music room that isn't unlocked until the music is ready to begin. On a weeknight, the room will be full, but not... More
