Lots of history behind this cathedral. We climbed the roundtower which was not for the fainthearted. 121 steps , wooden ladders and very tight at the top to get on to roof. You can see all around Kilkenny . This stands at one end of the medieval mile and Kilkenny castle is at the other end.

...but we didn't go inside. It's a bit off the beaten path and it took a while for us to find it, so we didn't venture inside or up the tower. It's an interesting site however, so probably worth the extra time and effort.

We were glad to have stopped at this cathedral, which was different from other European cathedrals. It has a very interesting history and is beautiful inside.

Very nice church, interesting interior. Very well documented with descriptions and signage. The tall tower / church bell was fun to walk up. Beautiful views from up here.

Great views of the town and the rolling hills. It was a tough climb up though, steep ladder stairs in a tight room. It got cramped with 3 or 4 people on a level. If you can do the 112 steps it's well worth it though for the view

The Cathedral is fantastic and worth the tour. It has been around for so long, it is just amazing that it is still working and in great condition. Great for a history lesson! However, I would recommend skipping the tower. While the view at the top is great, it is basically 8 floors of ladder climbing and it quite hazardous.

We climbed the old tower, a definite must. It's a little tight in there, but worth the effort. The view from on top is great. All the effigy tombs in the floor and around the cathedral are amazing, and the stained glass windows are absolutely beautiful.

Recently attended a Paul Brady concert in St. Canices Cathedral. The atmosphere and acoustics were amazing. The lighting was very effective on the beautiful stained glass windows. The cathedral is well worth a visit in daytime too.

If visiting Kilkenny over a weekend - try and time your visit to coincide with Sunday afternoon Evensong in St. Canice's Cathedral. The choir are truly heavenly.
