Unfortunately, it was a wet day and Knocknarea is a steep climb. We climbed over 800 metres and the rain defeated us! Queen Maebh is supposedly buried here in full battle gear standing upright facing her enemies in Ulster!

The hike is short - right around 1 mile - but don't let the number fool you. Wear proper shoes! It's a strenuous walk due to elevation gain, uneven terrain, and slippery rock "steps" and grass. Overall, a rewarding experience with beautiful views from the top.

If you like walking and are into ancient Irish history and lore then you will love this place. Only thing I would say is....it would really help bring the place alive is there was more information about the place, on site, to read.....it would help put the site into context and really add to the visitor experience. The walk up... More

Fantastic views from all sides. There are seats if you need a rest on the way up. It's an easy walk if you have a basic level of fitness.

Climb wasn't too difficult. Views were spectacular, was annoyed at top when saw some tourists climb the cairn, when people are specifically asked not to. 360 view is worth it.

Relatively straightforward climb, easily accessable for kids. Great view from the top. If you do go please stay off the Cairn!! So many signs but they just get ignored and you can see the damage that's been caused as a result.

We were advised by reception at our hotel to take this hike. That was good advise. The driving route was well marked, there was ample parking and the trail was in good condition. I believe it is a 1.2 km hike to the top. Once there, the views are incredible. You have a great view of the ocean and Strandhill... More
