Walsall Leather Museum is a welcoming and friendly attraction housed in a restored Victorian factory building. We offer a fascinating insight into the story of Walsall's famous leatherworking trade. There are regular guided tours and demonstrations of leather crafts, and a lively programme of events and actvities throughout the year, including changing exhibitions. Beautiful gardens planted with traditional tanning trees and shrubs. Excellent cafe serving home made food, and a great shop specialising in Walsall- made leathergoods.

Set in a restored leather factory and with an excellent guide, this museum provides a detailed insight into this local historic industry, which our group thoroughly enjoyed. This was completed by an overview of the skilled creation of small leather goods and the various types of leather used. We even had the chance to emboss key rings for ourselves. Well... More

Our Co-op History Group visited the museum yesterday (25th March) and were made very welcome. We had a conducted tour of the museum and a demonstration/talk on the use of leather, the different types of leather and the manufacture of small leather goods. It was all very interesting and quite entertaining! We learned a lot about the processes and skill... More

A group of us went to Walsall Leather Museum what an experience it's free and well worth a visit, the work making leather goods takes a lot of skill.

I didn't get to spend much time here but I'm sure next time I'll be hanging around for a lot longer The staff are charming and very knowledgable Their passion was soooo evident to see in the manner they spoke in, I'm talking in particular about the lady at the shop / reception. She invited me to come back soon... More

Thanks for the great feedback. It sounds like the team looked after you well! We recommend between an hour and an hour- and- a -half to do the museum justice, although some visitors do spend a whole morning or afternoon here. There`s lots to see plus constantly changing temporary exhibitions, and our great little café for refreshments and light lunches,... More

I worked in Walsall for years and drove past this museum frequently but had never visited until this week. What a great little place! I went with a small group and we had a wonderful guided tour. Our guide was great, very knowledgeable and just lovely and friendly. I had a vague idea about Walsall's leather industry but mainly from... More

Thank you for your lovely feedback. Our `Craft Club` has proved really popular and it has been great to see people returning every month, and in the process making new friends and learning new skills. And I know Francesca has loved having such an enthusiastic and appreciative group to work with. More

Great place with lots to see and learn eg all the surnames associated with leather, the tanning and 'currying' processes, and displays of leather goods up to the present day, Good for any age except really small children - it's not that spacious - but for older ones there are demos and 'have a go' sessions at certain times (check... Many thanks for the positive feedback. The Old Hall exhibition has proved very popular with visitors and has brought back lots of memories for many people. It runs until April 29th. As you mention, there will be an admission charge to the museum from 4th April, although Walsall residents and children will still get in for free, and our shop... More

Thank for a great review, I`m pleased to hear you liked what you saw! We`d be delighted to see you back at the museum, perhaps with a little more time to spare , as we generally recommend about an hour- and- a -half to do the 9 rooms and workshops justice. Pleasant staff. Short walk from railway station and the two bus stations in Walsall. Directions are a liitle patchy though - best find the location on a map first (just off Stafford Strret)

Thanks for a great review. We are looking at signposts again shortly - if in doubt aim for Walsall College, which is our big neighbour! More
