I knew this hall had been little touched or changed since it was originally built and that successive generations had done little to maintain the building beyond the basics so I was looking forward to seeing the original decor and furnishings in a natural worn...More

If you can delay your visit until all the renovation work in the house is finished, then I recommend you do. Most of the important rooms are currently packed away and you walk through many rooms of boarding, safety barriers and scaffolding. Most disappointing is...More

The hall was extremely interesting regarding the mining community and family life for the gentry, it caters well for those with restricted walking and has a wheelchair policy for them. Many items were a blast from the past and very worthwhile to pass a few...More

There are at least four pubs within easy reach, the furthest is probably 2 miles away

Travelling from Far Far Away Land (Norfolk! ) back to Gretna in the near future. Would this be a good place for a half way stop ?

Member of national trust, and just visited Christmas market 10th Dec with family. Very disappointed with lack of stalls and Christmas cheer, have booked for enchanted evening in gardens next week sincerely hope this will be better especially as costs incurred to bring grandchildren. Good job fine day so could at least walk around the gardens although not much to admire in winter. Called in cafe for a warming refreshment but poor service as only limited staff buy plenty of customers. Signed disappointed member.
