The Whitworth Gallery is a fair way down Oxford Road, so not very convenient if you're a central Manchester shopper simply wishing to drop in. However it is a nice gallery and has a good series of special exhibitions, so definitely worth dropping in if...More

Recently refurbished, Manchester's Whitworth art gallery has spacious exhibition spaces, airy but not too clinical, with views out of floor-to-ceiling glass windows to the park outside. On our recent visit we enjoyed the Andy Warhol artist's rooms(s) with thought-provoking multiple images of skulls, guns and...More

Went to visit Andy Warhol free exhibit, ended up finding a beautiful collection of printed fabrics from various decades and also some precious art in ceramics, namingly Majolica, wich for a decorative arts master was just heavenly. In architetural terms the gallery itself is very...More

A superb spacious and modern art gallery with regularly changing exhibtions of works by famous artists. However the lovely cafe is let down by lenghty queues resulting in a 25 minute wait for a drink. The service is always tardy whether the cafe is busy...More

We apologise if you didn't manage to get into the cafe on this occasion. We had 17,500 visitors over the weekend of the Frost Fair and our cafe only holds 100 people, so demand for a table was particularly high. We always knew this would...More

This gallery has regular high quality exhibitions and a very nice cafe to boot. Since the refurbishment it has really moved up into one of the serious UK galleries. If it can develop the woodlands next to the galley and improve the perceptions it could...More

I went to the gallery for the first time yesterday with my girlfriend as it was the Frost Fair this weekend. The frost fair had a small ice-rink at the front of the gallery with lots of little food stalls going around the side of...More

Situated within University of Manchester, the university museum is modern and very insta-worthy. Attended the special exhibition on Andy Warhol and really enjoyed it. Would be great if the museum shop has a greater variety of (affordable) items.

The Whitworth's new look is very well done. We really liked "Visions of the Front" exhibit in Sept. this year. For the rest, it really wasn't quite my taste, but very well displayed. Thought the Café was beautiful but a little pricy.

I was very impressed by the different exhibits and we were really enjoying ourselves But then we saw something that was offensive to a certain group and wasn't pleased.

Questions & AnswersAsk a question
Where can I find a floorplan which tells me what is on display? Can't find one on the website. 'Search the collection' doesn't reveal what's on display and what isn't. I'll have 2 hours free in Manchester and want to see 18th & 19th century British art. The Whitworth reputedly has a lot, but is it on the walls? Reviews suggest not.

The Greenheys car park, just off Denmark Road, barely two blocks from the Whitworth, is lovely. £1/hour, with a parking attendant.
