Roman rebuild

Interesting depiction of the origin of Manchester. Some reconstruction of the Roman buildings and good display panels explaining what was where and when

This is a great place to go for a walk especially if you live in the city centre. You can walk alongside a number of canals admiring the barges passing you by or those which are moored around. Quite a few great pubs and bars around as well with good outdoor space where you can enjoy the sunshine. Well, at... More

We had a fantastic time walking along canal paths and over bridges for a couple of hours whilst in Manchester. The Castlefield area is very varied in architecture, style and age and is beautiful to behold. There is a lot of building and development work going on all around so some areas are hard to get to at present but... More

It is a nice area for a walk, you can find a few pubs and terraces around there. Is full of boat-houses. We went in a rainy day, but I am completely sure in a sunny day is amazing. Is just next to the train station.

Castlefield is an area off the beaten track but is not far from the Science and Industry Museum and is well worth a visit particularly if it's a sunny day. The old warehouses around the Canal Basin have been renovated into offices and homes and residential and touring barges are moored alongside. The Wharf has a wide selection of eateries... More

Castlefield is a beautiful place, and if you have never been here before - you stumble across it. In the Summer, it gets very busy and there is plenty to do and see. You can board a water taxi, dine at the Wharf or nearby pubs and restaurants, go for a walk all the way to Salford Quays (you can... More

After eating at The Wharf, we enjoyed a walk around the immediate area taking in the historic sites, canals and a couple more pubs. There are Information Boards at the important sites which were very informative and explained about the ruins and the buildings which were dated from AD70 that were once located in the area. Well worth a visit,... More

We reached it by walking along one of the somewhat dilapidated canals from the centre. What a find! Some really good info boards put up by its society. Ignore all the "trendy" bars and concentrate on the layer upon layer of industrial architecture, exemplifying the history of industrial transportation. The museum is good too, incorporating in the old station.
