If you're in Autin, the cathedral is worth a walk up to. The outside is quite detailed and you can walk all round it and go inside. It isn't the most beautiful of cathedrals we have been to, but there is some interesting architecture. In the tourist brochure that I read, it described the medieval buildings surrounding it. We were... More

Because of a strange attempt at modernization in the early 18th century, the tympanums (or tympani for Latin literati) were saved from vandalism during the French Revolution. The bishop had ordered the sculptures covered over with plaster because they were deemed by him to be too strange and frightening. During the period of restoration of cathedrals in the 19th century,... More

Lovely cathedral with its coloured tiled roofs typical of Burgundy. We went in a few times whilst staying in Autun and most times it was being used by the community, which is great to see in this day and age; from services to christenings. It has an amazingly beautifully carved tympanum at the front of the church. Inside was beautifully... More

Classic cathedral, but just another France landmark. It is the town landmark. The Roman amphitheater is worth the trip.

This is a beautiful cathedral and if you are local I think it is worth the stop. I went with my husband and two children and we all enjoyed our time here

Absolutely stunning tympanum above the entrance of the Cathedral. It's worth having a really good look at it.

Just to see and pass by. Beautiful interior, located at a nice square, just one of those things you need to see when you are there.

I did the tour suggested by the tourism office. The visit of the cathedral, which is free, was the highest point (of an otherwise rather disappointing tour). The ceiling is quite damaged but the whole church is nevertheless beautiful and very impressive. The front door and is Tympan is amazing!

What a historical cathedral on the pilgrims route from Vezelay to Santiago de Compestela, Spain. Amazing front entrance and carvings inside.

Incredible building in a beautiful old part of Autun. It is fabulously decorated inside and out with the most intricate of carvings. It's huge main doors open to a massive interior . One of the most beautiful religious buildings I have ever seen ( I am not a religious person but appreciate lovely architecture ) Do take time out to... More
