The Royal Chateau of Blois is your gateway into the Val de Loire. The Royal Chateau of Blois is the first important place to discover as you come from Paris. It is a true synthesis of the art and history of the Loire Valley chateaux, and makes it an ideal introduction for your visit. The rich architecture of the four different wings echoes the diversity of styles of the many chateaux built in the Loire Valley from the Middle Ages to the 17th Century.

The castle is a well preserved attraction, although neither as big nor as beautiful as other castles in the Loire valley. Its most renowned attraction -the spiral staircase - is indeed an architectural masterpiece. The gardens of the castle are absolutely gorgeous.

It's a nice and well kept chateau, by any measure. Gorgeous vistas and wonderful gardens. It's one of the smaller ones in the region, but don't let that prevent you from visiting. It still has plenty of royal flavor, excess and flamboyance. However one of the unexpected attraction was seeing Leonardo Da Vinci's tomb in the small chapel by the... More

The castle at Blois was a great jumping-off point for the Loire Valley. Had we not started there, I'm not sure we would have fully understood how the entire region came to be. We had an english-speaking guide who was amazing... we learned so much about the various centuries of royalty at the castle and the constant fight for power.... More

Blois was altered and remodelled by so many French kings that is is a real mixture of architectural fashions. A lot of the interior was restored after it ceased to be a barracks in the mid 19th Century, so it is hard to know how accurately the interiors were restored....but it is filled with some wonderful paintings, ceramics and sculptures....even... This castle is very particular because at the same area you will find 4 different castles built in 4 different eras and by different people. Very interesting history and magnificent stairway filled with various carvings. Worth taking the guided tour to understand the historical story of the place. There is also a show in the evening where lights are projected... More

This chateau blew me away for two reasons. The first was the significance of the chateau, its history, furnishings and the extraordinary exhibitions - all fantastic and not to be missed. The second reason however, is the art museum tucked away on the second floor. In the most unassuming way imaginable this little museum of about 6 rooms contains a... More

Taken through the history with a number of well thought out historical exhibitions inside. Quite different from the other chateaux in the area. Good vantage point overlooking Blois and the Loire.

Have visited this place nearly 30 years ago, so was keen to see it again. It's still a brilliant example and well worth a visit if you're in the area. Excellent info on the older members of France's royals (like before the Sun King time). And of course the ever-present Catherine de Medici, wow did she get around.

We visited the Chateau on an organized tour with a very knowledgeable guide. We enjoyed walking around the chateau and looking at all the different styles of architecture from Classic, Renaissance, and Gothic. The construction of the buildings took place from the 13th century to the 17th century. There are 564 different rooms, 100 bedrooms, 75 staircases, and a fireplace... More

We loved our visit to this Château and found the various architectural and Art styles through the centuries fascinating and fun. It is a very educational visit for young and old with interactive monitors and videos, as well as audio guides if wanted. Definitely worth a visit when in Blois.
