Very nice town and castle

Castillo y Pueblo de Calatañazor are literally the castle and the town called Calatañazor, in Soria Province (about 30km far from Soria), in Castilla y León. It is a very nice town, which is very well preserved, where you can see the traditional architecture, walk around the old streets, visit the castle ruins and see very beautiful views of surroundings, drink or eat something in the restaurants. Very good place to walk at the evening.

This is a gorgeous XII castle in a small village about a 20 minute drive from Soria in Spain. We climbed to the top of the tower and saw fabulous views of the countryside and village. Nice restaurants and beautiful village.

Magical village and castle...

A must-see if you are in the North of Spain. Hogwart’s meets The Hobbit. A tumble of ancient castle and village houses clinging to the side of a ravine. Impossibly beautiful particularly at sunset. Used as a film location by Orson Wells it feels impossible that the village is real and this well preserved.

History untouched

This village is a landmark in the history of Spain. Here the muslims and specifically the bloody "caudillo" Almansur was defeated and badly injured in the XI century. This is were the constant razias of the moors were diminished. Besides the history, enjoy the beautiful architecture, castle, panoramic views, good food, and nature surrounding.

Not much left of the castle but the village looks medieval

Castillo de Calatañazor, lies in the very small, walled village with the same name in the province of Soria in Spain.

The name Calatañazor is derived from the Moorish name of the castle; Calat-al-Nusur.

Calatañazor Castle has a famous reputation in the history of Spain because it's the place where a legendary Moorish leader called Almanzor, called "The Victor" by the Moors, died in 1002. Almanzor was on his way back from his summer raids in the lands of the Medinaceli and very ill when he died here.
The castle part of the walled village but separated from it by a dry moat that was cut out of the rock.
