That's about all it is good for....There's nothing else there....And it was covered and still being restored in late 2016.

Porte Mars is still under wraps with nothing to see. It didn't appear that there was much work going on.

This is currently undergoing renovation and is totally enclosed. Also the nearby market (open Wednesday) had only a few stalls open mid-week,

The Porte Mars is under wraps, and there is nothing to see. In Italy, they would have had a large picture of the monument on the wraps, but this is not Italy. So, nothing to see, but this is a good thing as it means that the city has finally understood the need to preserve this unique monument. Whilst awaiting... More

Sadly the whole thing is under renovation lime most monuments in Reims now including the Notre Dame Cathedral. This place seems pretty neat and cute but definitely do not waste your time there for now.

We were able to see portions of the gate through the scaffolding when we were there. The good news is that it is being restored - it would have been satisfactory if there was some curation or kiosk placing it in history or details of the restoration. We love to check out Roman structures and their history when traveling.

And they are not kidding. This attraction is fully covered and the public has no access at all to such a significant piece of roman history. One understands the need for restoration, but is disappointing when one has travelled such a long distance not to be able to see anything at all.

The city is in the process of "renewing" this gate which dates from the Romans. Do not know when it will be finished.
