We visited several times Château de Fontainebleau thanks to various visits from friends or relatives, but always with joy and great pleasure. Castle is perfect preserved, surprising visitors with the architectural richness, beautiful paintings and tapestries. Gardens are beautiful and for sure your will not regret any second you spend there.

As good as Versailles, with less tourists! This palace is HUGE but we can only tour a tiny portion of it, so keep that in mind when visiting. About 90min away from Paris. €15 entrance fee. Definitely recommended!

I loved it. It took us 2 hours to visit the castle. In winter it is very cold (couldn't take my winter jacket off inside). The audioguide is a good idea. It was amazing. Recommended!!! You have to take the transilien (not sure how to write it) from Gare de Lyon (make sure you ask where to take these trains... More

The first thing which was noticeable at Fontainebleau was the poor signage and directions - it took a while to work out how to get in and where we should park! Unfortunately this continued inside - we didn't have an audio guide as we were supervising children, but this made it difficult to know what we were looking at- some... More

It's a bit far, especially in public transportation but so worth it. Take the pink RER from Gare de Lyon to the Fontainbleau-Avon station. There take the bus 1 to the Chateau. The bus announces each stop so it's very easy to get there. The chateau has amazing ornamented rooms, guilded ceilings and rich tapestries abound from the times of... More

We have, over the years visited numerous chateaux in France. This one has to be very near the top!. The splender of Versailles but without the crowds. Fantasic day out - even the kids loved it!

I lived in Fontainebleau for a couple years when I was in middle school, but hadn't been back since high school. So, when a business trip was going to bring me to within a few hours' drive, I decided to tack on a few days of vacation and go back. I didn't plan to spend much time at the Chateau,... More

We decided to visit since we had already seen Versailles. Great day trip from Paris. Easy to get to, about a 45 minute train from Gare de Lyon. To get there, go down two flights to the metro area to buy train tickets. As mentioned, buy a mobilis ticket from a blue machine as it will cover the train/bus/metro all... More

Really worth a visit and the audio tour. Better to refresh in advance a bit of the French Revolution and Napoleon history as the descriptions lack on some more historical background. If you are coming from Paris, Gare de Lyon, notice that you can only buy tickets at the metro-subway machines. We had a hard time until we found out... More
