We had wanted to visit notre dame on our weekend away to pairs and entered it by chance when we found the catacombs were closed. For less than 2 euros you can get a metro train almost anywhere in Paris so that's what we did. Just standing outside the cathedral, we were amazed by the attention to detail - the... More

Notre Dame is a must see while in Paris. It is awe inspiring. The lines were not long at opening time and we could spend all day here if there was wine:)

Booked skip the line audio tour, had to wait longer than the line because city vision tours not registered with notre dame, had to phone 'get your guide' to receive audio recording AVOID booking this tour. Much cheaper & efficient to just turn up & queue & receive audio from cathedral staff who were very apologetic!

Notre Dame de Paris is an old cathedral which was built in 1163, followed by French Gothic architecture. The most beautiful part here is colour glasses. Worth a visit.

Excellent 12th-13th century building. Free admission to go in to the cathedral itself which is good. People everywhere at any time of day so don't let crowds put you off must see location

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighbourhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
