A department store with an identity crisis - it thinks it is in the art gallery business! Very seldom have I walked into a department store and said wow. In addition had a great selection of items, enough to satisfy even the most fashion conscious teen girl, at reasonable prices. Enjoyed lunch at the fifth cafeteria which had a great... More

This shopping mall is huge and is like heaven for women into fashion. My girlfriend loved it here so much and wanted to buy everything. (Glad she didn't though.. ;)) If you have the time to spare to make your girl happy this is a great place to visit on your trip.

Hi Wesley, Thanks for your review and being a good sport while your girlfriend shopped! A great compromise for men is negotiating a quick tour of the men's store followed by a burger and beer from Big Fernand on the 1st floor. We hope you'll get a chance to try it out next time! Kind regards, Katelyn More

Even if you don't like to shop, go for the rooftop view! It's free and not too crowded. I did some browsing and found there to be a mix of worldwide brands (Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren) along with some European labels and the stores own brand. Overall, I got the impression that it skews toward more luxurious items, but there... More

In every big city must be a huge shopping centre like that. Is the same in London with Harrods or Milan with La Rinascente. Shopping malls where you can find everything for clothes and accessories but also about design and gourmet. In that place i really loved the terrace in the last floor and the 6th floor with the gift... More

The view from the 7th floor is truly magnificent over the rooftops of central Paris and additionally it is free! There is a small champagne bar on the roof. Apart from the view the inside of the building is a great sight with the spectacular centrepiece dome of stained glass and breathtaking balconies. The store is crowded but worth the... More

I have lived in Paris for the past 13 years and used to go here a lot with my mother and family. Galeries Lafayette is certainly very iconic, but it has gotten too iconic. I'm an Indonesian-born French citizen, I know how we Indonesians can get when shopping. It wasn't a surprise to find so many Indonesian people roaming the... More

Galeries Lafayette has excellent customer service and a very wide variety of everything from designer luxury brands to lower priced affordable items. The main building has a gorgeous glass dome. There is a section upstairs where you can find clever Paris souvenirs nicer than the junk in tourist shops. I also love visiting the home/gourmet building, where you can buy... More

This is a very beautiful shopping centre and the architecture is stunning. However the prices are higher than normal high street brands. Its a luxury place for shopping if u can afford it. Otherwise u can enjoy the atmosphere and the beautiful architecture.

Staying in Opera / Bourse

Neighbourhood Profile
Opera / Bourse
The neighbourhood around Opéra and Bourse is a belle époque paradise of grand boulevards, refined arcades, and mass-market art-nouveau entertainment. Here, modern day workers continue to take advantage of the legacy that nobility and finance left in the 19th century. Brightly-lit brasseries, theatres, and cinemas sit side by side with French bistros predominating in one area and Japanese restaurants in another. The area is most famous for the Palais Garnier opera house and glamorous department stores.
