This review is for their branch on Rue Montorgueil which is where we stayed just round the corner from. Both the confectionery and service were outstanding. A young lady by the name of Sana gave us brilliant service. She couldn't have been more helpful. The best service we received in Paris by far.

This chocolatier, which apparently began at Rue Faubourg Montmartre, is fantastic. What a joy it was to feast on the sights and smells and -- of course -- tastes of their marvellous creations. If only I had gone in earlier, we would definitely have brought more delights home with us.

As others have said, this was Julia Child's favorite chocolate store, and with good reason. Everything we've tried was sinfully delicious.

Shopping for chocolate in Paris is always difficult - there are so many choices and they are all very good. I recently discovered A La Mere de Famille after reading a reference to it in a Food magazine. There are a number of shops around the city - my favorite is on rue Montorgueil in the old Les Halles area.... More

My daughter and I stumbled into this place after noticing how many Parisians were carrying stylish little bags with the la Mere de Famille logo on them. This place is tiny, so if you don't see many people inside, pop in quickly. Service was extremely friendly and the chocolates are delicious, the best we've had on our trip. Highly recommend.

This place is just off the passageways and we had to pay a visit to this old store and to buy and taste some real french candy for ourselves.

The store was a few blocks from our hotel so we decided to check it out. It's definitely a fun, old school establishment (which makes sense given how long it's been around!). There was a large selection of chocolates and other candies to choose from. We got a small serving of the chocolate, chocolate chip ice cream and it was... More

What a delight to stumble upon this beautiful establishment. Delicious chocolate was sampled and we left with lots of goodies to bring home to the family! All packed in a beautiful carry bag. Very obliging staff, what a Parisienne treSure!

Staying in Opera / Bourse

Neighbourhood Profile
Opera / Bourse
The neighbourhood around Opéra and Bourse is a belle époque paradise of grand boulevards, refined arcades, and mass-market art-nouveau entertainment. Here, modern day workers continue to take advantage of the legacy that nobility and finance left in the 19th century. Brightly-lit brasseries, theatres, and cinemas sit side by side with French bistros predominating in one area and Japanese restaurants in another. The area is most famous for the Palais Garnier opera house and glamorous department stores.
