This zoo is known as ‘La Ménagerie, Le Zoo du Jardin des Plantes’. This should tell you that it is but a small zoo. In fact, it is a ménagerie, rather than a zoo. And ménagerie translates as ‘small zoo’. However, do not let this stop you from visiting because you will spend a most delightful couple of hours here... More

In this zoo (not the largest one in Paris) you may find a few rare animals, although many of them are not always visible (e.g. The panthères). Some elements, like the vivarium need to get renovated. I think what you can enjoy most is the environment where there are several places to sit and relax. Tip: visit it on a... More

It's a good zoo, I had a good time, but there are a number things that have prevented me from rating it higher. The positives: I loved all of the signs on native wildlife, the ecological garden is fantastic! The bat roost was my highlight, fantastic to see a city zoo giving provision for native wildlife. The animals there are... More

I was so glad to see that the animals are very well treated and they are the priority here, not the visitors (and yes, that's the way it should be !). If you don't see some kind of animal on their habitat the first time, go to the next one and come back later to see the one you missed,... More

For 13 euros i expected to see more. Ok, i understand that it is winter and many animals don't want to be outside, but i think 30%-40% of cages were empty or to be repaired. But it is not so bad, becouse animals i saw were in good shape, seemed enjoy the day. Leopard couple and red pandas just owns... More

Classical 19th century zoo architecture with lots of iron bars, but the animals still have enough room. Not over-crowded and without the usual lion-tiger-elephant-giraffe quartet but with the unsual tree kangaroos, Visavayan pigs, Anoa, clouded leopards, Siberian Ibex...

I went to the small zoo paid my 13 or so euros and had the best afternoon in the centre of Paris you could wish for. The enclosures were immaculate and you could get up really close to the animals just what a proper zoo is meant for. The history of the place and the architecture of the buildings and... More

We have been here before but it is well worth another visit. There is lots to see and the zoo is beautifully laid out with trees and parks. There are cafes dotted around and indoor exhibits if the weather isn't great. We particularly enjoyed the monkey house!

This was an ok zoo. As previous reviews mention, some of the exhibits are not models of animal comfort, but the vast majority of the exhibits are consistent with what we've seen at other zoos. Some of the exhibits cages are made of wood, and probably should be in a Museum of Old Zoo Stuff. Primate enclosure seemed reasonable. The... More

Staying in Quartier Latin

Neighbourhood Profile
Quartier Latin
The Latin Quarter bursts with intellectual life, architectural splendour and ongoing merriment. The small streets are filled with classical buildings, student bars and lively eateries while the squares are dominated by historic monuments. The area is defined by the 800-year-old Sorbonne University, where Latin once prevailed, and is famous for the Pantheon which celebrates the great men and women of France. During the day students rush from classes to the library and intellectuals people watch from the terraced cafés. As night time falls the surrounding establishments fill up and the merriment really begins. The liveliest parts are around Rue Mouffetard, lined with crêperies and international street food eateries, and Place de la Contrescarpe characterised by terraced brasseries, this neighbourhood provides real nourishment for the mind, belly, and soul.
