A valley of astonishment
Dec 2016 • Couples
I was astonished to pay 32 euros to be poorly seated in such an outdated and dusty theater,
Peter Brook is more minimal than ever with the "Valley of Astonishment".
My main astonishment was the number of people applauding and cheering.

Always See What's On Here
Oct 2015 • Couples
My wife and I are theater artists so we have a particular affinity for this place and we always make a point of seeing what's going to be playing when we visit. For travelers who don't speak French, there is often at least one production a season in English, plus music concerts and dance. If you're a theater lover and are not familiar with the work of founder Peter Brook, you should be: he is one the greatest makers of contemporary theater in the past 60 years (he's 91 at the time of this writing... and still creating amazing work that can be seen there).
The building itself is beautifully (and intentionally) decrepit. The seats are not the cushy chairs that many Americans might expect—they are primarily padded benches with low backs—but the work being shown there is of a caliber rarely seen in the US (I live in NYC so many of the company's touring productions do come here). We have sat in the top balcony (which is pretty steeply raked—not a good place for you if you suffer from vertigo—but the seats are least expensive) and in the back of the orchestra and in both places I could see and hear perfectly well. There is an elevator to the balconies for those who may need it but my wife and I had no trouble climbing the stairs.

Just Love this Place
Jan 2015 • Business
I was lucky enough to get tickets on the door for Fragments, a Brecht collection of short plays. They were part of his learning plays, telling stories of peoples experiences.
The theatre was a grand old place. Seating in the round with a massively high old background for the stage.
Worth a visit for any time in Paris and they appear to do foreign language plays.

Review of "The Suit", Peter Brook
Apr 2012 • Couples
What a fabulous theatre space! However, don't sit in the front row of the balcony unless you have exceptionally short legs. Otherwise the theatre is lovely, bohemian, full of promise. Unfortunately the production was slightly disappointing. It was only an hour and a half, and within that time Peter Brook was trying to incorporate too many issues. The music and singing were brilliant.

For theatre lovers and admieres of Peter Brook
Feb 2012 • Solo
Brook is retiring but his great ramshackle theater carries on. If you speak French and modern theater go as there is also a charming bar and bistro
