I highly recommend trying to see a performance in this lovely venue. The Chagall ceiling and the gold trim as well as the lovely plush red velvet seats were transformed magically by the lighting at night. Simply loved the experience!, was quite pricey but one is transported back to Paris of yesteryear and was worth every penny.

Prepaid this visit and found this a little disappointing. Audio aids were terrible, crackling every time the guide moved her own audio equipment. Unable to see the grandeur of this building as low lighting during the day, and a piano tuner made it difficult to hear the guide.

We have seen this building so many times whilst visiting Paris, but have not been around. It is a must - certainly we were taken by the place. We did have an audio guide, which was interesting, but got in the way of the amazing rooms and views. Well worth a visit.

We attended a ballet performance at the Palais Garnier. What a special treat to see a ballet in such a beautiful building. Great experience.

If you're a fan of the Phantom of the Opera, you'll appreciate all of the architectural elements that were worked into the show! Even if you're not a fan of the show, the ornate building will transport you to a different era and there will be plenty of things to photograph. I went in the afternoon and did a self-guided... Just a grand, beautiful, impossibly ornate structure. The friezes, relief sculpture and incredible artwork have to be scene to be believed.

What a gem! I definitely recommend everyone going to Paris to see this marvelous place. No matter where you look, you will be impressed! It's located right across from the famous department store Galeries Lafayette. It's certainly a must see even you only have a day or two in Paris. You won't regret it. Be sure to get an audio... Very impressive opera house, majestic staircase, a wonderful mirror hall (slightly resembling the mirror hall in Versailles palace) Take the audio guide. It's easy to use and very helpful. The theater hall is beautiful though when i came, it was closed for visitors as there was a reheasal, but we could see it through the window

The Opera is a beautiful sometimes overwhelming building. The Chagall ceiling is worth the trip itself. It is a must to get the audio guide. There is also an English guided tour on Thursdays. The only downside of coming here is that the Opera is next to the Galleries Lafayette -- this means immense crowds and tour buses everywhere. I... More

This was my second visit to the Palais Garnier. Previously, I purchased a personal guided tour. On this visit, I purchased the audio guided tour, which was definitely superior. It provided more information about the Opera House and in addition had video which provided additional information.

Staying in Opera / Bourse

Neighbourhood Profile
Opera / Bourse
The neighbourhood around Opéra and Bourse is a belle époque paradise of grand boulevards, refined arcades, and mass-market art-nouveau entertainment. Here, modern day workers continue to take advantage of the legacy that nobility and finance left in the 19th century. Brightly-lit brasseries, theatres, and cinemas sit side by side with French bistros predominating in one area and Japanese restaurants in another. The area is most famous for the Palais Garnier opera house and glamorous department stores.
