The most beautiful Opera house in Europe
Jan 2021
Beautiful architecture at the heart of Paris. This building is definitely a highlight when visiting Paris. The surrounding are impressive but the inside even more.
There’s a large avenue before reaching the Opéra, many “grand magasins” department store can be found next to it. That makes the location so convenient!
This is a must to see.

Beautiful architecture

Palais Garnier or is one of the most renowned and impressive landmarks located within the city of Paris. It symbolizes the opulence of the Second Empire. Commissioned by Napoleon III in the year 1861, the present-day structure of the Palais Garnier is nothing short than a luxurious architectural delight.

The Most Beautiful Building I've Seen
Jan 2020
A trip to the Palais Garnier, whether to see the opera, the ballet, or simply take a tour, is an absolute must. I went on a whim, and it was one of the best things I did in my 3 months in Paris. The building is absolutely stunning and definitely worth a trip.

Disaster! Too many people at the same time! Heard nothing!
Oct 2020
We recently booked a guided tour of Palais Garnier with the Paris Tourist Office. We arrived at 2 o'clock to find at least 50 grade school children in the rotunda all talking at the same time, which kids will do. Very very noisy! We asked our guide if he could find a quieter place to make his presentation. He refused so kept talking over the noise. We heard nothing. Way too much static information in the beginning. Would have been better to start the tour and incorporate the history and the information as we walked . We just wanted to see the beautiful building! Ended up staying with the group 10 minutes and, still not hearing anything, abandoned and did the tour on our own. Much better. Sad that Nicolas was so into following the rules that he couldn't have been more supple and helped make the tour more agreeable for his clients! The tourist office also could have staggered the groups so not everyone started at the same time. VERY disappointing!

Closed due to the National Strikes
Dec 2019
We were so looking forward to an evening of ballet at the Palais Garnier, but it was cancelled due to the national strikes. We did visit the exterior. What a beautiful opera house. We walked around its block, maybe twice. A true monument and beautiful architecture. We must return to see the interior and a performance within. Such is life.

Beautiful structure from the outside. Golden statues decorate the top of the building. Unfortunately, I still didn’t have the chance to see a spectacle inside due to limited places.

A masterpiece
Oct 2019
Built in the second half of the 19th century, Palais Garnier is certainly an opulent building and one of the most beautiful and well known . It has been named in honour of the architect who designed it. We loved this masterpiece, but unfortunately were unable to see all areas of the building at the time of our visit. It certainly is worth a visit when you are in Paris.

Beautiful!
Aug 2020
The visit that I'm reviewing was during the covid crisis but unlike some visitor attractions in Paris, it is still possible to pay at the door here but only by card and an automated thermometer takes your temperature on arrival.

It is such a spectacular building both inside and out that it's worth a trip if you are in Paris. It costs approximately 12 euros for an adult (August 2020) for an autonomous tour without audio guide. It's possible to make the trip brief, if you are in a hurry as we were on this occasion, and appreciate the spectacular surroundings in less than one hour. The main sights are the Grand Escalier, Le Grand Foyer with the chandeliers as well as the auditorium. Viewing of the latter is made possible via access from a booth, During my most recent visit, this was on a lower level but previously it has been higher up. It's worth stepping outside and observing 'la Place' below and taking a look in the library. At various points there are costumes from past performances on display with basic information about the productions involved. There's a nice souvenir shop with lots of dance related gifts as well as a cafe. It's a lovely place to visit with many photo opportunities. Recommended.
