About
This jazz bar wasn't always known for its smooth jazz acts: boogie-loving GIs frequented its cool, smoky interiors during World War II.

Firstly, this is not my kind of thing but being as we were there celebrating a birthday it was what the majority wanted to do. Having said this, if you like quaint little clubs and jazz music you will love it. Only small downstairs so queue ready for opening time, 9pm if you want a seat. Cost 14 euros to get in and a pint of beer was 11 euros. The bar is on entry and the live bands downstairs in the cavern. Professional jazz dancers made it better

I went on Saturday night to see the legendary "Francios Laudet's Swing Band"
This a great "little' club, full of history and one I suggest you arrive early to get a seat if you want to watch the band ,the club is essentially a dance venue and they do their best to keep that tradition alive... I just wised they put the Air-conditioning on as it was Pari's hottest night on record

Stephane Seva crooned jazz classics in baritone in front of piano, upright bass, and drums. A few “seasoned” gents lead willing younger ladies to, and on, the dance floor until “Under My Skin” opened the dancing flood gates. Everyone had a good time, though the benches were not comfortable, the sight lines were challenging, and the bar a narrow flight of stairs away. Chic or glitzy it ain’t, nor will the stars come out nightly. One the other hand, no stars, no over-packed house. Just good music in an unusual venue.

If you are in Paris you absolutely have to go there! There’s an incredible atmosphere. You will listen to the live music, will see all around people dancing and when you’ll try to have a dance it will be really funny. Enjoy!

I've been to La Huchette on a number of occasions and never failed to have a great time. The bar upstairs has cozy seating for those who want cocktails and conversation. Down stairs the music is swinging and the Lindy Hop is the dance of the day. You can sit in bleacher like seating and enjoy the spectacle or join in regardless of skills.
Always live music, it's some of the best talent in Paris and ranges from Jazz Standards to Rock N Roll, all of it infectiously danceable. The club also offers coat check and be sure to pick up a souvenier CD from the band on the stand.
Although the cocktails are strong and the wine selection French (meaning excellent, including champagne by the glass, they keep the best stuff at home!) don't get too lit or when negotiating the archaic back stairs to the loo you may need help!
Rumored to have been the site of secret Templar meetings, this building is from medieval times, adding to the ambiance. Don't miss at least one night here!

Is this a bit of a tourist trap with a steep 13 euro cover charge? Possibly yes. It was still one of our best evenings out and we closed the place down. Our sweet waiter tried to steer us towards less touristy jazz clubs, but options were limited on a Sunday evening and it was close to our hotel. It’s in a cool cave like setting, featuring some local dance pros and a crowd of tourists come to watch them. Tip: it gets very crowded around the dance floor downstairs, but walk around to the left and walk past the elevated seating area , there is another seating area behind it accessible through the left. You can still see the dancers and I think people didn’t realize it was there! There’s also a shortcut to the bathroom and bar from this little area, it was like our own VIP lounge until the crowd thinned out and we moved down. The tall bartender was entertaining and chatty.

We went here on our first night. The bartender greeted us with humor and made good drinks. The cave downstairs where the music was is very cool. Jazz standards with a swing and the dancers that come here were the best part. I think these must be regulars who just come to exercise their Lindy Hop dancing chops. So much fun.

The swing band that we saw Monday night was highly entertaining. Top notch musicians. A few dancers, local regulars I’d guess, were wonderful. Dancers of lesser talents had space & if I’d had a dance partner and any ability I’d have been on the dance floor. We arrived at 9:15, got good seats, and the band started at 9:40 or 9:45.

This looked an interesting place as we walked past on way out to dinner so came back to visit after eating. €13 entrance fee. Bar area has TV screen showing music. We assumed that as the stairs were roped off that downstairs was either closed or full. Chose cocktails which were not too badly priced.
After a while we asked the barman if downstairs was closed he told us the alternative way down. Would never have known this if we had not asked.
Downstairs is a Mediaeval cellar.
Not much seating so get there early.
Amazing Olivier Franc band playing. We were enthralled.
Don't miss the alternative exit through the seating. It passes a back seating room and winds back upstairs through narrow tunnel like passage and stairs.
Loved the evening a highlight of our visit to Paris.
Can understand this can get really busy especially weekends but we were lucky it was a Monday night.
A must visit for music lovers.

We stumbled on this place in the Latin Quarter just steps from Notre Dam. Scenes from LaLa Land were filmed here but I can't tell which ones. It's a fun swing dance place where people of all ages can have a good time and not worry about a sleezy atmosphere. Down in the basement it's a small place so get there early if you want a seat. The night we were there the band was excellent with locals jumping in too. Really fun place!

Hi,
What days of the week and what time is swing dancing at this location? Are there generally a lot of beginners or are there a good number of intermediate and advanced dancers?
Thanks!

I noticed a lot of beginners but also about five advanced couples dancing who swapped partners every song

Is this cash only? Or do you take contactless cards?

I pay in cash, so I´m not sure if they take credit cards (I asume they do, due to the drink pricing list. To be sure, send them an e-mail. They have a webpage and they are also in Facebook as Cavue de la Huchette "officiel". Good luck!

Is there an age restriction to enter Le Caveau de la Huchette

I do not think so. We even saw a 10-12 year old child. No ID check in France as long as you do not ask for alcohol.
Does this jazz club serve food?

After the scheduled concert is there a second band or jam session until late night? Or does the main act go from 9p-3:30a?

When I was there the main act finished around 1:30 and they closed up by 2 or 2:30. This was a Tuesday I think, though.

Is there an age minimum to get in? I’ve seen all ages stated on a page somewhere but their official website doesn’t seem to specify. Our daughter is 15...

I don't believe that there is an age limit once children are not drinking alcohol.

We're a party of 7 hoping to visit around 11.00/11.30pm on a Saturday night - can we reserve a table in advance? And if so, how? Thanks x

First in, best dressed. Always packed but worth it. I have found it easier to get a table upstairs when band is playing downstairs. But it is not guaranteed.
