There are several really wonderful caveaux (caves or cellars) for live music in Paris and it makes a great Parisian style night out to visit these. I always visit my favourite, Autour de Midi, in Montmartre but this time also went to a great blues night at Le Caveau des Oubliettes in the Latin Quarter. Both venues are really underground... Heard about this place so checked it out on a Friday night. A real dive bar vibe on the ground level but later on the back doors open up to reveal the live music cellar with a full bar. I think it is usually free entry but they expect a one drink minimum per person. It gets hot down there... More

Visited on a Sunday night having read reviews in a few articles. Really busy but people made room and invited us over to sit. Fantastic blues musicians and great atmosphere. We'll be back.

I had a nice experience the with my wife. The band was top quality and the service also very good. They could have a better equipment and a cleaner toilet, but its a nice place anyway.

With history on its side, a place frequented by great writers Orson Welles, Jean Sartre, it is a Jazz treat on Sunday nights!! Off the cool and interesting conversations to look forward to, the basement is cozy with various jazz musicians jamming. Great place, and very interesting people to meet... a must

We went to this club on a Tuesday night and were surprised at how great the place was. Don't let the rock bar look put you off as the jazz is located down the stone stairs into the cave. Great atmosphere and the band 'the big hustle' were fantastic. Sporadic dancing and the guest singers added to a really enjoyable... More

We are staying nearby and read about this bar, so we went there after dinner on a Sunday night. What a great place! The club is all the way down an old stone staircase and it is tiny. However, the music is big and we had the pleasure of listening to a set of blues led by Big Dez, an... More

Loved the live jazz and blues down in this little "cave". The performers were French but were performing in English when we visited. Strong drinks, live music, good atmosphere!

I am a New Zealander living in Paris. I sing and studied music and this place fulfills my music fix every time I go. One could say I am addicted haha... and this place is fast becoming my second home :). The music is ALWAYS amazing and I have had some of my best nights in Paris here, taking new... More

The open mic goes on before any headline act. Popular place. Open mic starts at about 10pm, speak with "Big Dez". The upstairs bar is small, and fine to pass some time whilst waiting for the downstairs bar to open. There is no cover charge, but the drinks downstairs are priced as you would expect (they need to make a... More

Staying in Odeon / Saint-Michel

Neighbourhood Profile
Odeon / Saint-Michel
As the bustling center of entertainment for the residents of the Rive Gauche, the activity at Odéon never stops. Boulevards are lined with traditional cafes, restaurants, and boutique cinemas. The streets surrounding the fountain at Saint-Michel provide eateries from around the world. Lively bars are just next door and the prototypical terraced French brasserie is on every corner. The setting for this area is second to none; the Haussmann-style boulevards are contrasted by monumental architecture and overshadowed by the iconic Notre Dame, all within a moment’s walk from the Seine. This neighbourhood's world-famous bookshops, cafés, and streets will not fail to impress you.
