We had wandered from the Ile de Cite, over the Pont Neuf. We were west of the Concergerie and Palais du Justice. This open square was filled with people playing Boule. Children running around, beautiful trees and architecture. The area is filled with lovely, albeit expensive, restaurants. A quiet place to feel a different Parisien ambiance.

This charming triangular shaped open space tucked behind gorgeous Parisian houses and apartments is not to be missed. The gravelled park is dotted with bench seats and chestnut trees which bloom in spring. Apartments, houses, shops and cafes face onto the park. We chose Le Bar du Caveau for lunch - a tiny cafe with wonderful hospitality and delicious food.... More

A harmonious triangle of town homes from another era with a delightful park in the middle. This is one of Paris' treasures and should not be missed. Simore Signorier and Yve Montand lived here, for good reason. Stop by at night when it sparkles.

We just returned from 23 days in our beloved Paris. We have been going over there since 1994, at least 10 times. We rent an apartment in the very heart of Paris in Dauphine Place. We have been all over Europe, but Paris is a dream. You can stay there for 10 years and not see everything. The people are the... More

Lots of restaurants and cafes on the Place, (we like La Rose de France) but the reason to come is that on Friday/Saturday nights it is hopping with young people playing pétanque. There will be serval games going and people with food and coolers milling around. Great vibe.

My Fiance got down on one knee and proposed to me in this little leafy square. It looked like he stumbled upon it purely accidentally, which is great, as I don't think he could have picked a better spot! Given we didn't know much about the square, upon returning to London I read it is one of the most romantic... More

We stayed in an apartment overlooking Place Dauphine. After a few days we clearly understood that this was THE PLACE for Petanque (a French game similar to Bocci with silver balls). Every evening there seemed to be 4-5 groups playing the game. Pick up an inexpensive set (20 Euros) at Decathlon Sports store (a 3 minute cab ride away) and... More

Paris offers thousands of attractions, beautiful places and lovely corners, but I think that exactly in the middle of the town there is this magic square that is an "island" in the "île de la cité". Eating a Ocean salad and drinking a glass of sparkling wine sitting outdoor at "La Rose de France" bistrot will be an unforgettable stop.

Stayed at an apartment here on our last trip to Paris in April 2016. Although we generally stay near Bastille, we found this to be an excellentm, alternative place / location to stay. Built in the early 1700's it is a hidden gem that you can easily walk past if you are not aware of its location. Although it is... More

Watched locals playing bocce in the square with picnics... Delightful! Then an immense party of people (I was told 800 people!) dressed in white showed up with tables and chairs and food and white balloons and and candelabras and centerpieces... A piano player 'street musician'... Clearly not an everyday occurrence! We were just blessed to be there at the right... More

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighbourhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
