The shop was absolutely packed as was the tea salon. Luckily we did not have to wait long for a table. I tried to book beforehand but told they do not take bookings. We had the afternoon tea Noel with an extensive tea menu. Service and food was excellent. Shame the shop was so busy that it was impossible to browse the shop.

We initially went to the one that is still advertised as a tea room but when we got there it had been shut for a year. We were told by another Mariage Frere shop to go there.

One of the sure things to do while in Paris is to find one of these shops and enjoy it, whether you’re a tea drinker or not, but especially if you enjoy teas. They’ve been around since the 1850’s. So they’re Bonafide. Now what bugs me is that I can’t steer you to their swankiest Store/Shop, I ‘think’ it’s over in the Maria’s area. We’ve always enjoyed the smaller shop down a side street in the St.Germaine area, that too has a special little upstairs where you can enjoy cakes and teas, served by a fella in a white linen suit (at least that’s what we typically get...), but I believe the Store near Place Des Vosges is the chic’est, brimming with character. Our plans are to check it out this next trip. Their linen pouched tea bags don’t come cheap, but seriously, Life can be short, and I do feel like you owe it to yourself to treat yourself, which is why we probably drop over one hundred Euro’s in that St.Germaine shop each time we enjoy Gay Pari’. We are both more Black Tea Drinkers, but you also have a fine selection of Whites and Greens, also Herbals if that’s your bag. See what you think, Salida1048

I would like to clarify, the tea selection is incomparable, it’s the arrogance of the salesmen that was embarrassing, for them and the store. I’ve been to Paris a few times and I’m always taken by the kindness of the Parisians, until I walked into this store near Rue Des Artes. The young men in the store were condescending. A smugness about them because they knew about tea? I’m
Hoping my family and friends love their tea and I can forget about the smug service I received while visiting the beautiful city of Paris.

I’ve never been to the store in Paris, but every time I come to France, I replenish my stock of delightful teas.
My usual counter for that is at « Le Printemps » in Parly II, Le Chesney. They usually have a great service with very knowledgeable staff.
I enjoy their teas year around.

This a great tea salon in the French Salon de the tradition. There is a tea counter and the tea room in the back is surprisingly big. I have been going to this location since the 1990s. It prides itself on the vast array of old fashioned and rare teas it sourced from around the world. The decor and the tea is reminiscent of the old french colonies in the Orient, China, Africa, India the Carribean....etc...Parlor palms, some silver and white porcelain, napkins etc....It is a little straight laced and correct. At very least, it is a nice place to call in during the day. The tearoom is lit and bright, and crisp and very quiet. you could be in the tea room at the Metropole in Hanoi, le Royal in Phnom Penh, Raffles in Singapore or E&O Penang...It is that sort of place. It can get very busy but there's a certain atmosphere therein. It used to be that some afternoons you could see stars of French cinema in the tearoom, sometimes journalists and well known cultural identities. The dessert chariot is wonderful and apart from exquisite French afternoon tea cakes with some variation and addition of tea, there are sometimes a special item like bavarois au the etc...and they usually have the great creme brulee with raspberries. It's a beautiful place to go after walking around Paris. It seems to have taken over this part of the street just near to the BHV, l'Hotel de Ville and the rue de Rivoli...Somewhat expensive. However, this is a lovely corner of Paris to have a break.

The staff let me smell the tea.
For some kind of tea, you may ask the staff to keep it in a bag so that you save money from buying the can from the store.

Absolutely Terrible Customer Service!!!!! Disgusting!!! I thought Covent Garden in London had bad customer service!!!! This location in Paris takes it to a whole other level of terrible!!! This business is about the customer experience & I can't understand for the life of me why management does not understand this!!!!! The staff at the sales counter were more interested in smelling tea themselves and restocking shelves than assisting customers. My entire extended family spent a fortune in Mariage Freres stores over the years and are now taking our business elsewhere which is such a shame as they do have lovely teas!

The tea selection was brilliant - both of the normal varieties and of their own blends. A tad on the pricy side, but the smells are heavenly and the staff very helpful.
