Verdun Battlefields are a required visit for any person interested in WWI. Beautiful fields and woods which at one time was pretty much hell on earth. We cannot afford to ever forget this.

France has so much to see - so one simply must focus a trip and dig a little deep to build meaningful memories. Our theme was WWI and American involvement. That led to reading ~ five history books before the trip so we could better...More

Hard to believe so many died here. You get a great perspective of how WWI was fought and what the soldiers must have gone through. Worth a visit. Won't take that long.

Without Ingrid stepping up, stopping her holiday and offering to guide us around this spectacular area, we would of missed so much. Ingrid took us everywhere, went the extra mile for a couple of Aussies to ensure we got a special experience! Very sombering day...More

There are forts every few miles, walking trails through the now beautiful battlefields, and emplacements and reminders of another war that should've taught us many lessons. Pack a picnic as you can easily spend a day exploring. Read up on Verdun and the history of...More

I was blown away with how beautiful the memorials were. They emphasized Franco-German reconciliation far more than victory, which is what memorials to such a pointless battle should be.

Not a good option as you definitely need some sort of personal transport, especially for a day-trip. Check car rentals or a private guide with provided car.
