Actually it is a military base, so you have to book ahead. However tours can be arranged, just not easily. There is a nice park around the outside though.
Make time to walk across to the Citadel, amid the green park, alongside the zoo. Lots of work and updating going on but you can still have a leisurely walk around the outside of the citadel and stop for a picnic or pancakes and icecream,...More
We sent for a Tourist Guide from Lille TB, which dually arrived . The Guide clearly says "Visits are arranged regularly and booking can be made at the Lille Tourist Bureau" On our first day in Lille we went to make a booking, we were...More
A lovely citadel in a beautiful park, no free admission though. Visits have to be pre-planned through the lille tourist office. The Citadel is a working military location.
Good place for a walk, picnic, enjoy thrill rides. There is a zoo close-by and a circus also gets hosted once in a while.

Lovely park with place for ice cream/coffee/beer. Zoo was getting its spring makeover and so closed. The citadel itself is a base forthe French Rapid Reaction Force so you cannot go in but you can look from the outside.
A lot of walls of the Citadels are not in good shape, gates that were nice in horrible condition and poorly maintained- is one of big impressions. Also you can't see much, but still it is nice place to enjoy as there is a lot...More
A short stroll from the zoo is the Citadel, the inside of which is not open to the public (at least not whilst we were there). Whilst impressive, the grounds themselves seemed poorly kept. You are better off sticking to the nearby Zoo/park area.
