In the heart of Bayeux, this small museum will not take you lot of time, but it is worth visiting. It has great display and explanation of original Bayeux tapisserie (ok, it is not exactly tapisserie, but that you will find out in the museum anyway). If you have more than 20 min, I suggest to visit upper floor with... More

Accompanied my wife under sufferance as we had spent a week visiting battlefields, museums etc and although it had been a fascinating and enlightening trip I was on cultural overload. However, I loved it, we were lucky that it was practically empty when we arrived and we had the place to ourselves. helpful staff, good audio handset that explained the... More

I wasn't sure if seeing a tapestry would be worth the time and money, but the audioguide walk to tell the story of the tapestry was excellent. I learned a great deal and feel it was worth a visit!

I had not heard of the Bayeux tapestry until my daughter did a paper on it in college. It is a very impressive piece (stretching about 230 feet and about 2 feet tall) and tells the story of William the conqueror and his conquest of England after the death of Edward and subsequent coup by Harold. The hand-held "guides" do... More

Although being sceptic entering the museum, I must admit that this museum was really great. After paying you get an audio headset in your own language. The tapestry is 70 meters long and the audio headset describes all different scenes of the Battle of Hastings (1060). Even for children this audio is really great. After seeing the tapestry you have... More

The tapestry - its history, the story it depicts, and its display - are fascinating. This is a must-do for anyone in the Bayeux area. The audio tour guiding you through the tapestry is very well done.

I didn't want to really see this historical artefact but felt that we had gone all that way so why not. It was 9€ per person and I grudgingly paid but boy am I glad I did. It really was beautiful and to think it was 1000 years old it truly is worth the visit. Don't forget to see the... More

Story of the Norman conquest of England sewn into images on a tapestry a thousand years ago. What's not to like? Great museum. Dark room with special lighting to preserve the tapestry. You will be astounded at the workmanship it took to create this priceless artifact. The French were exceedingly wise to roll it up and hide it during the... More
