950th anniversary of Williams victory at Hastings. Was wonderful to see. Do not neglect the views of Caen from the fortification.

To be standing on the ground that once house William the Conquerer's castle was an experience. There is still a lot to see and it is a very popular location. We went twice in two days to ensure that we saw it all.

The Chateau is very imposing, sitting on a hilltop right in the middle of Caen. The entrance was build by the English man during the Hundred years' war. Walking along the ramparts provides lovely views towards the town with its many church steeples. There are also the ruins of William the Conqueror's original castle to be seen - it's one... More

Have on mind that on the site you will not find the castle, but only the castle ruins and the remains of the defensive wall. If you climb up the walls you will see one side of the city, but La Maison des Quatrans and Église Saint-Pierre the best. Of course you can visit Musée de Normandie and Musée des... More

The castle has been carefully restored and is great to wonder around. The views from the ramparts are spectacular.

I have a great interest in Norman history and was very excited to visit the Norman chateau in Caen. I was very disappointed to discover that there is no castle interior / keep to visit as such, so you are just walking in the grounds / walking on the ramparts to get a view of the city, and viewing two... A historical site to understand how the ancient emperors maintain protection against potential invaders. The view of Caen from the castle is very nice as well.

Castle grounds are free to the public. It's open at 9. Parking is ok and close. There is a small walk through informational in the back in what used to be a church or hall of some sort that's open to the public. We left before the museums were really open but there's a local museum of culture there and... More
