The exhibits I preferred most were the first ones of the 15th - 16th Italian Renaissance, quite stunning although as a friend remarked there were a lot of them. The floor plan is a challenge as is finding the right staircase in the cavernous interior, whilst staring back at the staff, who follow you around incessantly. I wasn't impressed with... More

This is a good regional museum with some excellent pictures both old and more recent. The temporary Frits Thaulow exhibition made a most interesting supplement to the permanent display and made the visit of greater interest. Signage could be improved.

Got the €8 ticket for the art and Normandy history museums. This ticket also gets you into the special exhibition on Thaulow paintings. The museum has got a variety of stuff from different area including Rubens and Bruegel. Well worth it and you can walk around the chateaux ramparts.

Bought the joint ticket for both museums, Musee des Beaux-Arts & Musee de Normandie, so you save a bit of money. Went to the Frits Thaulow exhibition which was varied & interesting. We did not visit the rest of this museum.

The permanent collection is rich in not very exciting paintings from the Baroque period but a few truly beautiful pictures make the trip worth wile. A section is devoted to contemporary art. There are regularly organised temporary exhibitions. The 1971 building is an excellent piece of modern architecture. Between 12:30 and 2 pm the museum is closed, but a decent... More

Set in a very modernistic building on the Chateau site. Plenty of old masters and a selection of interesting modern works.

Check their current exhibit and the collection is nice. The museum is not too big, so you actually enjoy every piece. Not expensive.

Visited here while on trip to Caen and were suprised at the amount and quality of art on view. Some great Italian art with great Dutch and Belgian pictures too. Overall would have been dissapointed to have missed such a lovely museum.

The museum is small enough that you can take your time and enjoy it slowly. There may not be many name brand artists, but the art is still interesting and beautiful (though the contemporary artwork is predictably bizarre). Our family really enjoyed it.
