It was the site of Joan of Arc's execution. It's always humbling to come across a place with such historic significance.

We were there on a rather dreary day. The square has beautiful Norman style buildings filled with cafes and shops. St. Joan of Arc Church is also on the square. There were not a lot of locals out and very few vendors. But, one can imagine this place on a nice summer day!

One of the most important sights of Rouen. Square has the market building and the church of Joanne d'Arc, but the real beauty is in the houses surrounding the place, very traditional and historic, nice to watch when walking by or to have a rest in the cafe on the place. From the square it's easy to follow rue du... More

This part of Rouen is a lovely place to sit at an outdoor cafe and enjoy a drink and meal on a summer's day. The square is surrounded by beautiful historic buildings.

The centre of Rouen is actually quite a small area at the heart of which is a wonderful town square surrounded by buildings with great architectural interest. A real buzz around here with lots to see and do. Although an area of typical tourist trap restaurants, cafes and bars it has a certain charm that somehow compensates. Lots of interesting... More

There are many timbered houses and / or cantilever's , much of which is in fact made up of old facades and buildings. The setting is very impressive but the highlight has to be what is related to execution of Joan of Arc who was there burnt alive the 30 May 1431 . The place of public executions with the... More

Rue Eau de robec, Place du Vieux-Marche, Rue Saint-Romain, Place de l'Aitre de St. Maclou are all beautiful little streets in Rouen one should wander. There are ample places to sit and enjoy a meal, drink some cafe and enjoy a crepe.

In among Christmas activities you did see the ruins of the original church. The church is worth a visit. Surrounded by many restaurants and shops.
