A good but not spectacular regional French Museum

The Musee des Beaux-Art in Angers is strong in 18th century French pictures ( Fragonard, Watteau etc) and has a few interesting Italian Renaissance works ( some of which are still... read more

This also was included in our City Pass. More than 500 artworks and archeological objects trace the history of Anjou. Paintings & sculptures continue to today. Well worth a visit if you enjoy history &/or art.

If you have a love for art and don't mind spending a few hours appreciating it, this is the place for you. I spent around 3 hours in the Museum, the staff is very pleasant and they speak both French and English, apart from the actual museum there's also a beautiful garden where you can lounge for a bit. Loved... More

The Musee des Beaux-Art in Angers is strong in 18th century French pictures ( Fragonard, Watteau etc) and has a few interesting Italian Renaissance works ( some of which are still looking to be given back to their pre-war owners. The display of 20th and contemporary works is disappointing however, although there are some interesting archaeological remains to see on... More

A rather disappointing experience. We found it difficult to find the entrance, due to misleading signage which took us into the gardens and then being clearly directed by an upwards pointing arrow, we climbed several sets of stairs to be greeted by a brick wall. The exhibition itself looked very interesting, but for a modern day museum, in an international... More

Do not miss this, so very much to see , quite circuitous and easy to miss some exhibits but ask people the way round. Seeing paintings that were looted by the Germans and awaiting their return to their rightful owners....very moving. Magnificent exhibits from all eras. Do not miss this museum

This art collection contains many interesting pieces worthy of attention, but the building itself is also a treasure. Great coffee shop at the entryway, as well.

The museum really has two separate themes - an exhibition showing the history of Angers and an extensive collection of fine art. I loved the history part of the visit and a favourite was the piece of mosaic flooring from the Roman period in Angers that had been painstakingly re-constructed. In fact the amount of Roman era artefacts on display... More

Pleasantly surprised by this museum. It is covered by the CityPass, and since it was a rainy afternoon, we decided to check it out. It is wonderful. It is amazing how much art they have from early on in the city's history. I think that was the best part of the museum. The museum spans art in Angers from neolithic... More

There were two special exhibits on when we visited and they were both very thoughtful and well organized. Overall this is a small museum with world-class curatorial work being done here.
