Overview
More
The Castle of the Dukes of Brittany houses the Nantes History Museum, displaying more than 850 historic objects with multimedia installations in a contemporary layout. The former ducal palace also holds temporary exhibitions and cultural events all year round. Besides, the rampart walk offers a number of viewpoints of the fortress. The night-time illuminations further reveal the architectural complexity of the site. A restaurant and a gift shop are as well at your service.

Very beautiful castle with its moat transformed into park, in the heart of Nantes. we go there for architecture, for the ballad on the "path of the round", the history of Nantes but not for the inner rooms that offer little interest

Lovely place to take a stroll. We didn't go inside but enjoyed a free walk around the ramparts. Very informative stops at viewing points around the walk. The main toilets were closed but the little cafe was happy for us to use their faculties.

We spent hours on a visit to the museum and exhibition which was all fascinating. Plenty here to see and excellent portrayal of Nantes history. Staff were very helpful and the English translation guide was very good.

Hubby had wanted to see this chateau while we were in Nantes. After white knuckling the drive in, we were able to park in the parking lot across a grassy knoll from the chateau. It was lovely! There are books throughout the many rooms to...More

If you are in Nantes, this is an attraction not to be missed, take your time walk in and around which you can do for free.

The castle is at walking distance from downtown Nantes. It is interesting for its history, tightly connected to French Kingdom one, for the Anne de Bretagne (who married two French Kings at the Renaissance) remembering, for the furniture and the objects presented in the museum,...More

There is no charge to walk around the moat and the ramparts. There was also an interesting temporary exhibition of photographs. It seems to be a very well preserved and presented historical building.

In all fairness we were short on time and never went into the chateau itself. It is free to enter the courtyard and to walk the walls. We did do that and got a spectacular view of Nantes and a good feel for the magnificence...More

We stopped by here, just to take some photos and have a general look around. You can pay and go inside the museum/exhibits, but we just wanted a wander around the grounds and ramparts, which is free. It's well kept and has been sympathetically restored....More

This is a beautifully restored castle, and absolutely enormous. There are 32 rooms to explore, and a lot of stairs, although they have thoughtfully put lifts in all over the place. They have certainly gone to great trouble to make this a very good experience...More
