This is a very interesting "castle", although it is more of a fortified palace, with the usual chequered history. Good views from the battlements and the buildings around the courtyard are beautiful. The museum is quite interesting also.

We were lucky to visit the Castle in the first Sunday of the month, when it is free. Not too many people, but enough for all the shade tables to be occupied.

With this Chateau, the access to the grounds is free, and we didn't pay to visit the exhibitions. You can walk right around the ramparts and also the gardens below, there are some lovely views of the city and several information boards to point out...More

Museum is very well done with a lot of interesting history of Nantes and the Chateau. Allow at least two hours. There are many interactive displays for the children.
