The museum has a fair range of exhibits which allow you to follow both the life and work of Matisse. The collection is not extensive, but worth a visit if you are in Nice and have some interest. A 7 day ticket for all of the Nice municipal museums costs 20 Euro, a 24 hr pass for them costs 10... More

I visited the city of Nice with my two children, ages 3 and 7. My son has been studying Matisse in his art class and was keen to see the museum. We took the bus (number 15 from the city center) up to the museum and it was...okay. The collection is small. I have seen larger collections in New York... More

The museum was underwhelming, not worth the 10 euro entrance fee. The price of admission covers many other museums as well, within 24 hours but considering we visited Matisse museum on a Sunday that did not help (most museums are closed on Mondays).

I'm not arty but like to visit galleries and churches . We walked from the centre of Nice which is an uphill 2 mile walk through a splendid area of quality and distinct houses and apartments . The museum was a bit of a letdown with fewer exhibits than I had expected. It is set next to a nice park... More

The museum feels like it needs a bit of care and attention and the work in it feels like it has just been cobbled together to cash in on the name. Make sure you bring ID for under 18s because the woman on the desk made us pay for our son because we had no proof that he was 17.

Loved the exhibits but I can see why some visitors were not that impressed. Unfortunately most of the famous Matisse paintings are in galleries around the world and not in his home town, Nice. But his graphic, cut-out period is well represented along with a few paintings and sketches which give an insight into how his style developed over the... More

The number 15 bus will get you right there and if you have the week pass to local city run art galleries/museums I guess you are getting your money's worth. Don't expect to see any English or other language than French. I know, this is France, but Nice has a huge number of tourists and it would have meant a... More

Take the bus up the hill and enjoy the grounds and the museum. The roman ruins are quite interesting as is the exhibition. You don't need all day, it's plenty for most art appreciaters. The walk back down the hill is thru a lovely part of town and you can go by the Chagall museum.

Take bus no 15 from Nice Center to the museum. There is a nice park to stroll in before you enter the museum. The exhibition is very nice and shows a lot of Matisse's work. Well worth a visit. When you buy a ticket, the ticket is valid for 24 hours for a number of others museum. You will get... More

The Museum can be reached from downtown by several buses. They travel up the hill of Cimiez made famous by the 1860-1914 building period. This enabled the construction of a turkish palace with minarettes (right hand side), passes the Chagall Museum (hidden, to the left), and turns right at Queen Victoria's giant summer residence called Le Regina (at the top...
