If you are collecting Triumphal arches, then do see, but it really isn't necessary. The park is surrounded by a traffic circle, so once in the circle you can walk all about and photograph to your heart's content. The monument had a dirty and ignored feeling. While I was there, a smoker stubbed out his cigarette on the structure while... More

Located not too far from the amphitheater is the Triumphal Arch, thought to honor those who fought in the Gallic Wars & built during the reign of Augustus. The Triumphal Arch, together with the nearby Roman Theatre of Orange is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The arch is well preserved with reliefs of the military conquests still visible. Definitely worth... More

This well preserved monumental Roman arch was built between 10-27 AD and is located on route N7 about 650 m north of the historical center of Orange. This commemorative arch, symbol of Roman glory, was built to honor veterans of the Gallic Wars and is decorated with various battle reliefs as well as having a carved coffered barrel vaulted ceiling.... The triumphal arch is a relatively short walk from the centre of Orange, about 15 - 20 minutes stroll from the Roman theatre, and well worth the exercise for history buffs. This is perhaps the oldest surviving arch of the type well-known from Rome itself: namely those of Septimus Severus and Constantine. The Orange arch was built in honour of... More

Situated in the middle of a roundabout about a 15 minute walk from the Roman theatre, the Triumphal arch is certainly worth a look. The decorative panels are interesting, being related to naval battles, and having a more modern appearance then others we have seen.

I wasn't expecting such a complete Roman arch in France. If you're driving, go for it. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother walking here from the theater.

The Orange Arc du Triomphe is a fantastic piece of Roman Architecture. It sports amazing carvings at the top, and beautiful arches throughout. It does not require a long visit, and it is easy to access. It is an excellent photo-op, as well as being a neat piece of architecture.

This arch is better preserved than those in Rome. This one was dedicated to Germanicus, who would have been emperor after Augustus instead of Tiberius, if Livia had not had him poisoned (alledgedly). The sculptures show remarkably little wear considering exposure to the elements for 2000 years.

If you are walking in Orange, the arc is hard to find. It is located in the middle Of a busy street. But it is well worth the effort. It was carved by local craftsmen after a Roman victory of the Gaulles. It is a much more human scale than the enormous and pretentious arc in Paris. The carvings are... More
