We spent 5 days in Annecy and got lucky on the weather so we decided to take in a boat cruise on the lake. We found that the building marked "Compagnie des Bateaux" is not the right place to purchase tickets for the lake cruise. You have to go to the small green building near the boats in the Jardin d'la Europe to get your tickets.

Now for a bit of philosophy about customer "priorities" in France. This happened to us in several places. It seems that the priorities for anyone getting into an event or on board something are: (1) locals, (2) large groups, (3) individuals like you and me. It doesn't matter that you as an individual arrive at your event first and wait in line 20 minutes before anyone else arrives. When it's time to enter the event/boat/whatever, locals will be asked to board first, then groups, then individual ticket holders. For the lake cruise, we were 3rd and 4th people in line. 15 minutes later, a large group of Italians showed up and started muscling their way through the people already in line. When the cruise company opened the doors, they made everyone else wait and allowed the Italian group and 3 other large groups to board first.

We were very concerned at the time because we wanted to get good seats on the top deck, outside to try to avoid the French national pastime of smoking. Finally they let individuals board, and we were relieved to see that no one, I mean no one, wanted to sit outside. It was a cool day, so maybe that helped.

We chose the 2-hour cruise (strains of "Gilligan's Island" come to mind), and it was perfectly relaxing. watching the beautiful lakeside towns and villas slide past.

We didn't see any of the other guests until about 1.5 hours into the cruise when about two dozen came boiling up out of the dining room for their "apres p'tit dejeuner" smoke.

So far the most part, the cruise is nice, although I am sure the experience would be much different in the middle of tourist season. It's worthwhile, but choose your times carefully and always try to be upwind of the smokers!

There are large boats that do lunch and dinner cruises on the lake.
We chose the small “no frills” boat which docks at the far end of the park and has about 4 departures daily in the summer season. There is no food, no toilets but it is wheelchair accessible.
No reservation was necessary and we arrived about 15 minutes before departure. At the departure time, there were not enough passengers, so we left about 40 minutes later when it filled up. The front part of the boat has padded benches and is partly open but the rear part with plastic chairs is open. So don’t forget the sun cream.

During the cruise there was a commentary in French. It was of limited interest. The commentator gave some comments in English only at the beginning. Perhaps there were no English speakers aboard…?
The cruise was a pleasant way to spend an hour surrounded by clear water and magnificent scenery. Highly recommended

We have visited Annecy a few times and once took a little motor boat on the lake. This time we took the one hour tour with these guys (in the rain but not their fault). Absolutely stunning and can't believe we haven't done this before!! The trip actually took a little lomger than the allocated an hour but that's a good thing. Friendly staff and cheap soft drinks available on board and a nice clean loo! Very happy and will do this again in the sun.

A must-do while in Annecy for a totally different perspective, especially if the sun is shining! The tours depart from the pier in Old Town Annecy at 11 and then at 2 and 3.30 every day, you get the tickets from the gift shop up the road by the bridge. The staff were very nice and there is a narration for the whole tour in French but you can scan the QR code to get it in your language! Very highly recommended.

As far a lake tours on a boat goes this tour was ok not memorable! Tickets for two adults 39.60 Euros.
The boat does stop at many small towns around the lake to pick up and drop off people.
Suggest you check at the time you purchase tickets which ones you can stop then rejoin the boat tour. Talloires was one of the places we could get off and spend 40 minutes walking around, it was lovely worth having a look at enough time to walk around and to buy a coffee to take away.
This tour would be a good way to see some towns around the lake.
If you speak French this would be an advantage when buying tickets as not much English is spoken.

Did 2 hour lake cruise in Lake Annecy which is gorgeous but boat is old and outdated. Plastic chairs are uncomfortable, is no air conditioning or airflow inside the boat, and the commentary provided by the captain is incomprehensible due to the poor PA system.

Expensive and the boat is very outdated and uncomfortable. The diesel stench is very strong and the audio guide is not audible at most points. Staff quite rude as well.

We had a superb afternoon (2hr) trip around the lake. The boats are spacious and comfortable with an interesting commentary of the key landmarks. A great and relaxing way to see the area. Great value too.

The trip was better than the 1 or 2 hour variety as it called at all major lakeside villages allowing a get-off/get-on option.

We stopped at Talloires which is very pretty and has a nice spa hotel on the lake front.
We had lunch here which was very reasonable and tasty.

The Lake is beautiful and definitely recommend viewing it by boat (we took the 2 hour loop). However at one point it started raining and we came inside to the strong smell of smoke. Turns out the skipper was having a cheeky cig in the toilet! Not very good considering all the non smoking signs.
