The old town Lyon is quite special, ok so it's become a bit of a tourist trap but despite the bazillion "genuine bouchon" restaurants , and tourist shops there are a myriad of quaint narrow streets, shady squares & cafes to keep yourself interested, fascinated...More

I would not have invited another couple as guests for a few days if I knew this apt is NOT a 2 bathroom -- it is one shared toilet, with the second small room having a shower and small wall sink. The apt is poorly...More

The old town is just amazing. The food is really nice, but a little bit heavy (watch out not every restaurant is good) and the atmosphere is amazing, like magic.

This is the heart of Lyon and there's much to see here even if it is overrun with tourists. Just wander off the beaten path a bit.

We spent a pleasant day wandering Vieux Lyon, taking in the historic, medieval streets, and admiring the wares of the patisseries. Lots of other tourists, so an early start may be a good idea.

Here you´ll find very old buildings, fancy and quaint shops, restaurants, coffee shops, ice cream parlors and - on a hot day - lot´s of shady places. Must see!

Lovely characterful area of Lyon, with characterful little restaurants and you must seek out the traboules - little passageways, hidden behind front doors. Another little words!

Lots of little "bouchon" serving great authentic cuisine. A definite must for any visit to Lyon. Most places are closed between 3-7pm so make sure to time your day accordingly. This is a walking neighborhood so would highly recommend using public transit to get here....More

A beautiful area full of interesting buildings and little cobbled streets. Nice to take a walk and explore all the way up to the cathedral.

Yes, depending on the time of day it would be 15 minutes in a taxi. That would give you a couple of hours to wander around Vieux Lyon, and take the funicular to the Basilica. On a fine day, beautiful views from the top. Hope... More

Printed brochures are unreliable check with official info office they seem to know more than the bus drivers relocations and the day's schedule changes
We (2 adult couples in our late 50's) are in Lyon for up to a week arriving on Sun 2nd Oct. Are there many wine & food tastings at reasonable costs within the city please? Or would we be best to hire a car and travel some distance which would mean finding overnight accommodation?

Lyon is a gastronomic heaven - with great wine thrown in! There are enough good restaurants to keep you going for weeks, let alone a few days. And I found the cost very competitive- better than Paris for example, as there is... More
