A truly fantastic museum if you are into textiles and decorative arts. The curatorial approach is handled with care but for non French speaking people there is NO English or other language descriptions or audio guides. A real pity! Also why forbid photography within the...More

My wife is an avid worker of fabric from embroidery to quilting and all things between than involve fabric so this should have been a highlight of our visit to Lyon, along with silk manufacture. We paid our, admittedly reduced, entrance fee of €7.50 but,...More

Of the two museums housed here, the silk museum is the more interesting, in fact amazing. Such beautiful, beautiful things woven with a skill that is hard to imagine. Think of it: It there are six shades in a bird's wing, each one of those...More

Not far from Place Bellecour, and easily accessed by bus, this is a lovely museum tracing the wonderful skills of the French in fabric making and home decoration. Some beautiful dresses from the 1800s, you can see the incredible amount of detail in the fabrics,...More

This may be the most underrated site in Lyon! Terrific show summarizing the history of silk industry in Lyon focusing on the development of the loom. Definitely worthwhile.

Such an impressive collection. Two museums and each by itself was stunning. But what a wasted effort. No English translations. Hard to enjoy something so well arranged, that in practice excluded visitors other than French speakers. Still it was impressive. The collection of period French...More
