I returned to Heidelberg Castle. I was stationed nearby from 1972 to 74 and it was a nostalgic visit. They are continually working to maintain this beautiful castle. It was crowded with large numbers of tourist visitors. We visited in May. Perhaps late September or...More

My husband and I stayed two nights in Heidelberg during our honeymoon. Heidelberg is an absolutely beautiful city and we are so glad we explored the castle. We paid to have a guided tour which took us inside the castle. Unfortunately this tour did not...More

My family and I went by ourselves to the Castle, and decided to take the funicular. It adds very little to the experience, because it lasts about 5 minutes and takes you a few blocks, but very steep. We arrived to the ticket booth and...More

The castle main area is free of charge and is very nice to have a walk through, the views of Heidelberg from the castle grounds are spectacular!

Heidelberg Castle is more aptly described as ruins as much of the original castle has been damaged. It is interesting to see the ruins and the worlds largest wine barrel. It was built in 1751 and stands seven meters high, is eight and a half...More

Heidelberg Castle (mostly ruins) is perched high above the city. There are pretty views over the town and the Neckar River, and the ruins are interesting to tour. For inexplicable reasons the wine shop appears to be quite well renovated, and once there you can...More

I had the opportunity to visit this castle at the very beginning of this year, and I would gladly go back again. This castle is lovely to see from the outside, and even more intriguing inside. The tour I attended had a reasonable amount of...More

Ascend by train up the hillside to the castle. Wander around the building, view the exhibitions and then choose to ascend further to the top on the funicular railway.

You can go up and park. There is a parking place, but its really small. Or you can also park on the road side, before entering the Castle.
