Climbing up the Philosphenweg and making our way to an old monastery on the top of the Heiligenberg we bumped into the Thingstätte right underneath the "peak" in a natural well. Built in the 30s of the past century it appears like an ancient amphitheatre...More

Eerily quiet even on a summer Sunday, this place has thankfully not got any intepretative boards or unnecessary gimmicks. Just a place to sit and try and imagine it full with Goebbels speaking at the front. The bus 38 runs here every hour on Sundays...More

Accessible by car for the most part just past a German Biergarten lies a amphitheater originally planned to seat 8,000 people. Goebbles held propaganda speeches here drawing a crowd of 30,000 people. It is all made of stone and brick reminding us of an eerie...More

Very interesting location very relevant to the nazi times, worth a visit if you love history. It is a bit of a hike to get there though.

This open-air theater is still used by locals for May festival. Hitler apparently thought twice about allowing large assemblies and only allowed it to be used one time.

First thing to know...there is a bus that will take you within 200m of this site. Second, the end of the Philosopher's Walk is NO WHERE NEAR this site. We started the PW at the north end of the Alte Bruck (Old Bridge) and followed...More

The Heidelberg Thingstätte is an open-air theatre on the Heiligenberg. It was built as a multi-disciplinary outdoor theatre which enjoyed brief popularity in pre-war Nazi Germany. Nice place to go for hiking and have a panoramic view.

We used Google Maps to find the end of the road near the parking lot and dropped a pin. It is up through a neighborhood and when you star getting close there are signs. I am not sure the locals want you to find it. There... More
