This is the best way to get up to the castle. Pick up a "Heidelberg Card" from one of the tourist information centers for the best deal. If a person would want to hike up and back down, there are several paths but they aren't recommended for folks with limited mobility.

A stop at the Heidelberg Castle is included in the funicular (cable car) ride, so if you're planning to see the castle, you might as well do the funicular. There are actually two separate cable cars that allow you to do several different stops, depending on the ticket you purchase: the lower car is modern and is the one that... More

The lines to the funicular are way too long on weekends and the walk up to the castle is much prettier instead. It is only about 10 minutes and you will see amazing houses and landscape along the way.

To get to Heidelberg Castle, you can either walk or take the funicular. Considering the steep climb, we decided to rest our legs and took the funicular. The standard price gets you up to Heidelberg Castle, but for an extra fee, you can take the second leg of the funicular up to a higher vantage point.

The "Altstadt" station is next to the Kornmarkt multistory car park in Heidelberg Old Town, so what can be more convenient for the tourist visiting Heidelberg. A simple "Bergbahn" ticket entitles you to go to the intermediate stop "Schloss", where you can visit Heidelberg Castle, and the final stop "Molkenkur. To get to the highest station "Koningsstuhl" you have to... More

Went there as two dads with fout kids and just had a fun time! For the kids it was nice to go up the mountain in a small cart and for the adults the view was pretty impressive! Not cheap, but OK!

This presented as an easier alternative than walking up the hill to the castle, and we were disappointed not to have heard about the other stop higher up otherwise we might have made time to see it - and that's why I write this review so prospective travellers might see this as another Heidelberg highlight to include in their itinerary.... Heidelberg is a top place for tourism with visitors from all over the world flocking to see the semi ruined renaissance castle; the funicular train is just the icing on the cake with a both ultra modern version for the lower journey and retro version with lovely gears, relays and pulleys for the upper part of the journey. The staff... More

For 12 Euros (make sure you get the right ticket!) you can get a return ticket by two funicular railcars up to the summit. I asked where the King's Chair was and it is apparently the view! The only downside is that the queues can be long. There is also a dilapidated inn at the top. However, if you pick... More

This is by far and away the easiest way to see the Castle, but when we bought our tickets we weren't told that the Bergbahn also stops at a higher level for a higher vista point, or, for another €7 we cold have ridden the "Historic" train to the very top. Unfortunately, the old train only runs until 5pm so... More
