We went up to the Veste Coburg on Christmas Day when it's closed. However, the keep and the grounds are open and we had the place to ourselves. Magical in the fog!

Amazing views from the top of Coburg. It's nicer if everything around the fortress is snowed. It's like a vikings movie.

Certainly worth the visit. Beautiful castle, rooms, collections of all sorts. You will need at least two hours. Please be aware that during the winter it closes down at 1600 hours.

This is one of the cooler castles we saw on our trip. The complex is large and very pretty. The view down to town is ok, but thats not really what you come for. The museum inside is nice and has several different exhibits. Almost...More

We spent over 3 hours walking through the exhibits and grounds here. Martin Luther stayed here waiting for results of the Augsburg Council and communicated with Melancthon who was representing him there. We stood in the rooms where he stayed and saw a handwritten letter...More

Veste Coburg is everything we love about Germany: a hearty walk (or charming ride) followed by a gorgeous view, compelling history, and of course a wonderful café. We were here for a long weekend and went up every day. Don't miss it.

We came here as part of a Luther- Reformation tour. The Luther exhibit was good, as were the other exhibits. But what really made it was the castle itself, with all sort of cool hidden spots, arches, and courtyards. It also commands a great view...More
