Great place to dig into the history of Regensburg

Apart from the museum you can also enter the church next door. The museum is very large and gives a great view on the history of the city of Regensburg

They have organized this rather small museum extremely well. Presenting artifacts form pre-roman, middle ages, up to 1800's. A couple rooms dedicated to local artists are very informative of local culture

Without English illustration unless you pay $2 for the audioguides. Some English language guidebooks available at the exhibition hall. Overall, a mediocre museum without important exhibits. Good connection to local history though

On our walking tour of Regensburg we were keen to visit the historical museum located in the town. To our surprise, on offering our credit card to pay for the entrance, we were told cash only. What major attraction in the world doesn't accept credit card these days? Sadly, we visited an ATM nearby to collect our Euros, however decided... More

This museum explores the history of Regensburg; it has moving exhibitions of artists; has a collection of old paintings from local artists; it has a historic church integrated into the museum; and generally it helps fill in the voids a visitor might have on Regensburg history from the Romans till today.

Some wonderful exhibits in this museum. As seniors we paid 2.50 euros entry, what a bargain. Very few people in the museum. The only bugbear is that there was no English notes beside the exhibit but we were able to identify most things and they were dated. Great museum!

This museum, tastefully invested in an old monastery, includes a rich collection of artifacts with a special emphasis on the ancient Celtic, and then Roman, artifacts of this city which boasts it's origins in a first century Legionary fort. The exhibits are thoughtfully and well designed to highlight many antiquities, and place them in an understandable historical context. Unfortunately, almost... More

The museum uses artifacts from the Roman occupation up to the Middle Ages to give the visitor a feeling of what it was like during the Roman era. The displays are very well set up to make it easy to assimilate the information (although much of the explanations are in German, fortunately my spouse speaks and reads German) We have... More

I learned so much about the Roman occupation of this area. Few of the explanations were in English, but you can get the gist of the history. Gold coins, jewelry and weapons, statues and Latin engravings. Really enjoyed it.

If you are a German speaker, this place is exceptional. It is housed in the old Minoritenkirke and cloister which can also be visited(closed now until March). Exhibits begin with the prehistory era and go through the middle ages. They are all very well done with many great items on display but little is in English, except the area dealing... More
