The Jewish Culture Museum was founded in 1985 in the impressive Augsburg synagogue. It documents the rich culture and checkered history of the Jews in Augsburg and Swabia from the Middle Ages to the present.
The new permanent exhibition, installed in November 2006, presents this history as a story of migration, as a succession of settling and expulsion, of integration and social exclusion, of self-assertion and assimilation. It focuses on the relationship between the Jewish minority and the Christian majority, also depicts the changes in religious practice in the course of time, showing Jewish history as an integral part of Augsburg and Swabian history.
