Our tour guide, Mariette (spelling?) was knowledgeable, friendly, and gave an overall great tour. We did the 3.5 hour tour which hit the Reichstag, Checkpoint Charlie, and other main sites, and it was the perfect amount of information, with cool anecdotes throw in as well. Highly recommended!

Our guide Jonathan had very good in-depth knowledge of Berlin and explained everything in great detail. He was quick to answer any questions we had and did his best to keep the tour upbeat despite all the Hitler talk; a very nice and funny guy.

We took the 3 hour free waking tour - you need only tip the tour guide. Mariette, the tour guide, was friendly to everyone on the tour, made a point of speaking to each of the group (around 15, mixed nationalities and ages) in turn as walked from site to site, always ensured that the whole group could hear her at... Our tour was on a rather cold but dry Sunday. It was lead by Sam, a young and charismatic History graduate who clearly had an encyclopaedic knowledge of the city and its history. Adequate stops for snacks, lunch and hot chocolate. Interesting that no anchors may be dropped in the canal because of residual unexploded bombs. Cannot recommend tour highly... More

Was a very insightful tour. Funny and informative tour guide and not boring in the least. Would definitely recommend to get an easy to understand history on Berlin and it's main landmarks.

Such an easy and fulfilling tour. It is one of the longer tours but Jonathan kept it fun and dare I say funny. He took us to the most beautiful sights and I truly enjoyed myself!

Took the 6 hour walking tour with Boris, who was absolutely fantastic. He brought the places to life with a mixture of history, his own views on the world and personal anecdotes. We've not done a walking tour on previous city breaks but will now make sure we do one as the first thing to do in the future, as... More

My wife and I only had one day in Berlin and we made good use of our time by taking in the six hour walking tour. The tour was at a leisurely pace and our guide Jonathan impressed with his knowledge and some of his jokes were good as well, time well spent improving our knowledge of this wonderful city.

Took the 6 hour walking tour, with Sam as our tour guide. He was great, he had a clear passion for the history of the city and Germany as a whole, and this really showed in the tour, from Prussia to the present day. Would definitely recommend this tour for anyone wanting an introduction to the city and to see... More

We did the afternoon Berlin Free Walk with ex-pat Aussie Matt back in early October and were very happy with the quality of the information presented in the tour and the breadth of interesting sites visited. Points of interest associated with the WW2 era are particularly well covered which we appreciated. Highly recommended!

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
