This is a lovely park. Perfect playgrounds for our children, however we were disapppointed that the Fairy Tale Fountains were still in winter protection boxes, despite it being April.

I love walking in this park as unlike the majority of Berlin there are steep hills! Historical note: there are two artificial mountains made from WW2 bunkers and the rubble of ruined buildings. Not only that but the park in general in very nice and well kept and there are certain notable sights to visit in the park; the fairytale... More

We walked to the Fairy Tale fountain in Volkspark Friedrichshain because it was featured in a book we were reading at the time. It is east of Alexanderplatz at the entrance to the first public park in Berlin. The fountain was originally opened in 1913 for the children of Berlin. The fountain consists of a number of statues depicting the figures... More

We visited mainly to see the fairytale fountain with sculptures inspired by the Brothers Grimm characters as recommended in my guide book. However, being winter they were boxed off (which makes sense as it was below 0) which was disappointing as I had hoped to see the statues even if the fountain was not on. That being said, the park... It was coolish and rainy but we enjoyed our walk through this park. Easy to get there by s line. Good for jogging or simply sitting. Places for dogs to walk freely. A small zoo free of charge (the camels were so desperate they were biting the wooden planks of the enclosure walls, there are birds, sheep, goats, horses-schoolkids come... More

I arrived at the park after getting lost. An abundance of birds chattering around. The grounds are well kept. I sat in the sun outside the restaurant. I even saw a red squirrel ( I think )

We went there last Saturday by bike, very charming Park, well kept and relaxed atmosphere. Specially the mix of the old DDR design, new design and how it is kept in a modern standard is great. Especially the Maerchenbrunnen is very romantic and invites couples. Nice little differen areas and meadows to relax. Also the Cafe inside the Park is... More

A beautiful park, which feels well-used by locals and pretty undiscovered by tourists. There are some lovely garden areas, and several beautiful fountains- the most spectacular has a 'fairy story' theme. There's a nice mix of places to wander, to do sports and for children to enjoy, plus a good range of places to eat and drink near the lake... More

Awesome park with many turns and flights of stairs for runners. We did a 5k and we did not repeat the same path twice. Very relaxing.

This is a nice park to sit and chill on a summer's day. Lots of green spaces, play parks and water features. As an avid walker, I loved the fact that this is quite 'hilly' as it made my workout even tougher! There's a good bit of history in the park and I liked that there were boards telling you... More

Staying in Friedrichshain

Neighbourhood Profile
When you arrive at Warschauer Strasse in the heart of the district, you have found one of Berlin’s party hotspots. At night in Friedrichshain, the energy is palpable and the streets of this old worker's quarter are full of street musicians. On one hand, you may find a bar with international crowds, electronic music, long lines and panoramic views - on the other, an outside venue by old train yards featuring decrepit buildings and live alternative music. No matter your taste, the best way to end a night out in Friedrichshain is sitting by the Spree River at the East side gallery, the longest and best preserved piece of the Berlin Wall, watching the sun rise over the beautiful Oberbaum Bridge.
