This might be fine for those who likes a picknick in free air, enjoying the space of an old airport. Start your trip at Markthalle Marheinekeplatz. Nearby is Bergmannstraße, a very popular and ice neigborhood. Shopping and dining included. Well, have a look to the Markthalle. Youmight be overwhelmed by the offer of different food and beverages. International specialities in... More

Perhaps our expectations were too high as we had hoped for a large, food shopping venue. Marheineke Markthalle is more like an American food hall in a mall, with a few produce vendors mixed in. However, one can purchase take-away food and enjoy it at one of the outdoor, shaded tables -- probably more affordably than eating in a traditional... More

If you are looking for quality and organic food, to consume on the spot or to take with you, do not miss this place. There are at least two bakeries that have several sorts of gluten free bread, for instance.

Was wandering through Kreuzberg visiting used bookstores, and this market hall was right next to one of them... so of course I had to check it out. I was there during late morning on a Sunday, and it was already pretty crowded. The Greek station had an eager line wrapped around it, and the smells emanating from behind the counters... More

We do our weekly groceries at Marheineke Markthalle. Great selection, calm and friendly atmosphere, no fuss (a market hall is a market hall, not a club, in the end!) - recommendations: Knippenberg's cheese stall, Mokka at 'Goodcoffee'

We had really great Greek food here. I am half Greek and I have grown up eating Greek food my whole life and this was authentic food with a fun Greek family behind the counter. They also have octopus (I was too full to try it after my huge meal). The portions are huge and so good that you can... More

We visited several times whilst in Berlin as it was only a 10 minute walk from where we stayed. The range of fresh goods is great and we managed to buy produce to take home and had a great meal at Snack Asia. All the produce was of a good quality and the prices were good too. Pity it closes... This was my second trip to Berlin and the first stop was heading to Lolas for Tapas. They serve the best Tapas I have ever eaten. with everything cooked right in front of you. My girlfriends reaction to hearing that I had booked a trip for us back to Berlin was "Can we go back to Lolas for tapas" I... More

I wish there was something similar to this at home, it's like a walk around many world cuisines with the opportunity to purchase the raw materials. We had a lovely stop at Lola which was as good as Spain for delicious tapas. You must go and try...

Staying in Kreuzberg

Neighbourhood Profile
Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighbourhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and '60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and '90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighbourhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.
