In the middle of the Bebelplatz is a small chamber, built right into the ground. A clear plexiglass covers it and inside you see empty white shelves...shelves that can hold 20,000 books. The number the Nazi’s burned in this courtyard. It’s a chilling reminder of...More

Every platz in Berlin has a certain history behind it.The Bebelplatz has its own also. This is the place where Nazis used to burn books in. In the middle of the piazza ull see a small opening in the group representing the underground bibliotheque. Nice...More

At first glance you don't notice the square so much as the buildings around it, because they are beautiful, historical and have fantastic details like statues. The church in the corner is particularly stunning. There is a Christmas market just past the church which is...More

The site of the Nazi book burning. The square is lovely with beautiful buildings with a sunken monument of empty bookshelves. Well worth a visit and a tasteful reminder of the horrors of Nazi rule.

Nice historic square in the center of the city. I think here Hitler burned several thousand volumes of books from the neighboring library after coming into power.

We found the memorial when we saw a large group standing in the square. It’s not well marked but has a stark simplicity. Since it’s near other sites it’s worth the short detour to savor the impact of book burnings in a square housing an...More

The site of books burning during the 30s & 40s. Today , the history remains & comes alive by looking down into empty bookshelves via a glass panel on the pavement in the middle of the square. Building Architecture is beautiful and it's great to...More

This plaza was famous for large book burnings by the Nazis in the 1930s. Don't forget to look for the peephole in the center looking down into an empty library.

The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights
like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum
Island. The central location makes this one of the
city's most expensive places to live. It is here the
oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence
of some significant transformations, as well. The
gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets
between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given
