A very mixed collection that shows life over the years in Hamburg. there are interesting paintings and drawings, rooms of furniture and the lovely ceramic early boilers that I find amazing, the tiniest beds (they must have been short in the old days). Ships and theships' heads. My favourite was Jonah in the Whale. Just so many things, there is... More

Much of this is about the maritime history of the Altona area. We were there during the Christmas season and there was a wonderful Christmas market going on on each floor of the museum. This was the best Christmas market of all I saw in Hamburg. The museum does a good job of showing how people lived in the past... More

Altona is accessible by Metro and has this beautiful museum. There is a lot to see about maritime history, city's past and art work

The Altonaer is surprisingly big, and contained far more exhibits than what we had imagined. If you're interested in the history and culture of north Germany them this museum specialises in this topic. We went there for the photo exhibition. A great collection of photos from Northern Germany spanning across 200 years. A word of warning for English speakers- all... More

The showrooms are filled with artefacts from the Scandinavian past of the town of Altona. Ships as models and lots of good explaining.

A large, interesting museum with lots of different aspects, including magic, in a historical look at Altona through the ages. Model ships to see also. No English translations. The restaurant was pricey.

Like many Hamburg museums much of the displays relate to boats.however there is a small section which contains a selection of film projectors and screen showing films from the beginings of the cinema,For me this made the journey worthwhile.I found the rest rather boring.
